What did you do with your Grenadier today?

Picking mine up in 3hrs… very excited!

(Have been on the waitlist for the new Land Cruiser 76 for months but the dealers have no idea when they are arriving… did some research and test drove the Grenadier which clinched it for me… I think I made the right decision in the end!)

Bush bashed a little through the tracks at Budj Bim world heritage down in south west VIC. Cleared a few obstacles with the hand axe, and a tow strap. Definitely picked up a few scratches…

Got chauffeured by the bride up to Toowoomba (2 hours on the road) to visit the inlaws, because the grenny needed to be driven after sitting in the carpark for a month (my knee replacement).

First time she has driven it.
She thinks it’s a truck. But she thought my lifted 200 sahara was a truck.
Driving on the highway - no problem, although need to “hold” the steering wheel more then the X3.
Parking and visibility - hopeless, can’t see out the back at all.
@trobex for you - the hump - she’s used to having the left leg stretched out, can’t understand why they did it, and if she’d been buying it she’d have said no during the test drive. Not really a problem, but definitely not a fan.

Me - got the pressure washer out and hosed off most of the mud that was all over it and had cacked the steps from our trip away a month ago. Not a wash, but windows are clean and Trousers don’t get coverrd in dirt as you get in it now. Happy to be back on the road in the grenny even if it was as a passenger. Toowoomba’s wind was bloody cold.

Yesterday my wife and I stopped by our dealer (Elliot Bay in Seattle) to check out our Trialmaster that they took possession of late last month. We plan on picking it up end of July after I sell my last 2 Land Cruisers (‘97 80-series Collector’s Edition with triple lockers & ‘03 100-series). Best part about the test drive is my wife fully approves.

THE GRENADIER'S OUTBACK PERFORMANCE
I have been Outback a while now, and just went past 12,000km. The Grenadier was built on purpose. My review is that it is fit for purpose.

It is raining in Eromanga now, limiting my ability to travel, but fellow Grenadier owners (from Sydney) passed through yesterday coming back from the Big Red Bash at Big Red (a big red sand dune in Outback Australia near Birdsville).

The Road Trains are stopped from going to Moomba in South Australia and the iOR Road Trains are stationary, across the road. I was passed by 5 cattle Road Trains this morning trying to get out of the area before the roads close. When the rain started last night, the station hands drove back to the Cattle Stations (Ranches for those in the US).

RAIN ACTIVITIES
I am working on indexing some flora images from around Eromanga and Noccundra. Here is a purple Variable Daisy (Brachyscome ciliaris) beside the Bulloo Developmental Road not far from the Noccundra turn off. About 1cm across. The rain cleaned it up nicely.

Today I set about changing the wiring I had done in South Africa as not up to standard and potentially lethal as they installed a female socket on the vehicle with the mains lead having male pins ! So if you still had the leads connected at the mains end then you have 3 pins live at the end you plug into the vehicle that you could stick your fingers into if not aware. Have changed the socket around and going to install a rcd with integrated sockets that will feed the Victron smart charger and the fridge when connected to a campsite or garage hook up.

My Urban side steps arrived this weekend and I installed them today. One side was a perfect fit, the other was not. I checked the angles of the mounts and one was way off from the other one. I made it work but it was kind of a pita. Glad to have them on, they make getting in/out much easier and I won't need to carry around a step ladder to get my kayak on/off anymore.

Hey Rob, another member put me onto your post. I tried to fit the Urban sidesteps at the weekend… not a chance, holes were 4-6mm out both sides.

Can you share how you made them fit? I tried some persuasion with a leather hammer (so as not to damage the powder coat) but not 1mm of movement.

They are so stiff I couldn’t get movement at all.

Any comments welcome.

I tried to fit the same steps this weekend, holes on the support arms were well out, around 4-6mm on both sides.
My son and I wrestled with them for over an hour, and I tried to convince them to move with a leather hammer, but absolutely no movement.
I've contacted Urban Automotive and they are looking into it, but say this is the first time they've had any issue.
Can you give me any tips on how you sorted it?

Hi Jock,
The driver's side on mine fit perfectly but the passenger side was off and you could see that the mounts weren't all at a 90 degree angle. I managed to finally get it mounted by starting with just one bolt on one end and left it loose and this allowed me to wrestle a bolt on the other end. I was then able to get the second bolt through on the same end, but the last hole didn't line up enough to use the factory bolt. I had to use a much thinner bolt for the final hole. Not ideal, but it's solid and on the passenger side that hardly gets used. I didn't think there was any chance it would mount once I started that side as it just didn't look like it would line up. I was very disappointed with the quality control, especially after hearing about similar issues people were having with their install. It was supposed to be rectified after they received multiple complaints about it and I ordered mine after the initial issues. I hope you get yours installed, they really make a huge difference getting in/out and look great IMO. I'm helping my friend install his soon and hope it goes better!!

After nearly finishing the repaint on my '73 Old Grenadier I installed a dimmable dual colour lightbar on the roof rack.
Seems to work OK.
Can be mounted via 3M tape or screws.
