I am now at my dealer Hedin in Belgium. About one month ago I made the appointment for the software update and some recall work.

Two days ago they called me to tell me the spares for the recall work didn't arrive.

At the end of the conversation I asked the guy if I should bring my two keys for the software update. "Yes" he said, "otherwise the remote control will not work, but it isn't critical because you can still use the key manually" 🫣

Would he have told me to bring the key? Certainly not, he called me for cancelling the recall work and I only knew "the second key issue" because of this forum.

Wondering how long it will take for that update.
Maybe I'm wrong Jean but I would say 2 out of 10 owners would automatically take the 2nd key along, probably those that have already had relatively new cars and needed software updates or some similar scenario.

Poor from your agent again. Should be one of the first things on his checklist while phoning you.

First time off-road today. 0.58 miles Derbyshire Bridge to Buxton NW England green lane. Mixture of mud and gravel. Low range and centre diff lock. Great fun. 2 seat Petrol Utility Wagon delivered 3 October by Bowker Ribble Valley with new software. No spurious warnings in 3 weeks. I fitted and used HF (Atas120) and VHF antennae on supplied Rhino Rack Pioneer roof rack with supplied antenna mounts. Local mobile VHF digital contacts and a 20m HF voice contact with Italy 55 signal while off-road today. Thanks to @Jean Mercier for the footwell power instructions (for Garmin chart plotter showing digital radio contacts and Nextbase Dashcam). Thanks to @Tomdoc for the roof antenna cable routing instructions. I can confirm that the grab handle and surround can be removed with the Rhino Rack Pioneer roof rack in place. Radios attached to a 38Ahr AGM battery charged using Rigrunner PowerGate from a 25A roof socket routed back into the cargo compartment meaning I can switch it via the roof switches while moving.

Got my software update "1946" today. Brought my car in at 8h00, and they "almost finished" the software update at 13h30. Why almost? Because there was still a transmission steering error and the passenger airbag was "off" and could not be set to on.
The technician told me that these faults usually disappear if you leave the car for at least 20 minutes "in peace". But I had an assignment at 14h30.

They also had my new damper (had arrived the day before!) [see this thread] and the technician asked me: "20 minutes waiting or your damper". I choose the damper.
I left at 14h00 and arrived on time at my assignment. So I drove away with some potential errors, and while driving I also noticed my cruise control didn't work.

Then, the car had it's rest (2 hours because of my assignment). When driving home I saw that my cruise control was working. And before reaching home I checked on a meadow if the 4X4 function (center and rear differential) worked. Indeed, (as others noticed) the nice "torque" screen while driving in 4x4 has disappeared compared to the 1939 software version.

Once at home I could switch off and on the passenger airbag, while pushing the break during 3 seconds (and enabling on the info screen, I forgot to take a picture).

OK, this update seems to be successful! (y)

And I got some explanations and tips of the technician in the workshop! Thanks to him and the workshop manager: they are proud to explain what they are doing!

Tomorrow will be the real test, as I have a 4x4 Ineos/Hedin event! :love:

We had today our Benelux (Belgium - Luxemburg - Netherlands) Grenadier event on a private domain in the forests in the North of France (Ardennes) close to the Belgian border and close to Bouillon. Very well organized by Hedin with:
  • breakfast
  • workshops (winching, changing a tire, theory about offroading)
  • lunch, without alcoholic drinks (y)
  • in the afternoon a practical drive in the forests, it had rained a lot therefore it was very muddy, like two hours driving
  • drinks and hot dogs (around 17h)
  • goodies: a pen, a sticker, a necklace and ... a very nice sweatshirt or hoodie, or how do you call it.
I met one of our forum members (@Voader - Oudersopzwier ) and missed another one, a pity.
I made also some new friends and I hope we will get some new forum members.

Did I learn something: yes! We were divided in groups of 4 or 5 cars with one instructor per group and walkie talkies. I took two passengers (one future owner, and a friend). Some drivers had no experience and we had sometimes to winch them out, and there were three occasions where the instructor told us to use hill decent control, and specially the last one was very steep and slippery.. The first car did it (with the instructor on board), the second did it but almost broke something, although he had followed the instructions. and the the instructor said to the two remaining cars (me and another) to go back. I asked to try it, and I have to admit, that without the instructions I wouldn't have made it. But the Hill Decent Control is spectacular!

Funny, nobody was wearing his Belstaff jacket, and there were quite some Trialmasters and Fieldmasters!

Maybe at first sight not a spectaculaire image, but look at the pitch on the dashboard. This was taken during the descent of a steep extreme slippery slope. Off-road on, Low gear, 1 gear manual, Hill descent controle on and let it roll. DON’T TOUCH THE BRAKE!!!
The car did‘t just fine! You could feel each wheel looking for grip and the car just went slowly downhill.
Did this already before with my defender, a bit the same but without the help of an hill descent controle.
We need to do this more often!

Great, we did it too in the Mammut Park. You can adjust the downhill speed with + and - on the cruise control.

That last one I didn’t know. Good to know!
I tried it yesterday, and I could be wrong, should test it again, but I have the "impression" that the speed increase is with smaller than 1 km/h steps, because I had to push at least twice to see the speed increase on the screen.

I don't think I knew the Downhill Assist function worked in reverse. @Barney's post indicates that the feature can't be used when the F/R diff locks are in. I wonder if they can be disengaged in the middle of a failed hill climb?

I remember on NA test rides the instructor demonstrated to me how the down hill assist speed could also be adjusted by putting the bmw shifter in manual position and using the shifter up or down to control the speed. For me this was easier because if your are steering while descending the cruise control button is always moving so you can loose your orientation of it easily and in a rush to adjust speed, the gear shift was easier for me to reach for. I am wondering if this technique works for the production models as well ?

I am sure that this is not new:

1) Use the center differential locks
• A center differential lock is standard on every Grenadier and manually activated via the mechanical transfer case selector
• The center differential lock must not be used on high traction surfaces
• Lockable in high and low range
• Stop the Grenadier
• Put the automatic gearbox in neutral

Lift the collar on the transfer case selector
• Shift across from unlocked to locked
• An icon lights up in the screen behind the steering wheel
• Engaging and disengaging the center differential lock may require moving the grenadier a few centimeters

2) Use the front and rear differential locks
• Both, front and rear differential lock, are optional on the Grenadier
• Before using differential locks ensure:
i. Engine is on
ii. Vehicle speed is below 15 km/h
iii. Accelerator input is below 40%
iv. Vehicle wheels are not spinning
v. ESC is not actively intervening
• Activation order of differential locks
i. Center differential Lock
ii. rear differential lock
iii. front differential lock
• Using the rear differential lock
i. Ensure the transfer case is in low range
ii.

a. The Grenadier has a two-speed transfer case
b. Low range has a ratio of 2.5:1
c. Stop the Grenadier
d. Put the automatic gearbox in neutral

b. Press the downhill button in the overhead control panel
c. Downhill Assist cannot be activated when front or rear differential is locked or when ESC is deactivated

A green icon in the infotainment screen indicates an activated downhill assist. The icon flashes when Downhill Assist is in control
e. Set the speed in Downhill Assist using the RES+ and SET- buttons in the steering wheel
f. Press the downhill button once to switch it off
g. It will also automatically be switched off when driving more than 24km/h or reversing 9 km/h, a differential lock is activated, or ESC is deactivated
5) Activate the Off-road mode

b. Press the Off-road button for 1 second
c. Press again within 15 seconds to confirm
d. Two icons will appear in the screen behind the steering wheel, one for the offroad screen, one which says ESC off
e. The LED in the off-road button is turned on
f. Features affected by offroad mode
i. ESC switches to ESC off-road
ii. ESC functions are reduced
iii. Engine start/stop
iv. Parking sensors
v. Door ajar alerts
vi. Seatbelt reminders
g. Off-road mode turns off when
i. pressing the button for 1 second

Why only 95 %?
Just because it is as well possible to start the off-road mode while driving?
That´s hard!
