As you say, the roof is designed to carry a load. I have also transported wooden poles several times. With a carpet as a base, this is no problem at all. One person has even sat on the roof. I don't have a single dent.As the roof is designed to be load-bearing, I thought it would work and it did. My only concern was scratching paint, and the carpet runner dealt with that. The only trailers I have access to/own are vehicle trailers and a few miles away.
