I had on my list to follow up with Rival about the gas tank skid plate apparently not playing well with the transfer skid plate I had already installed, but they happily beat me to the punch. I just received this welcome e-mail from them, and am very impressed with their proactive customer service and attention to detail:

Our records indicate that you previously purchased our Gen1 Transfer Case Skid Plate for your Ineos Grenadier. Due to updates in the design process, the gas tank skid plate you recently purchased cannot be installed with the Gen1 Transfer Case Skid Plate.

As a courtesy, we will be sending you a Gen2 Transfer Case Skid Plate shortly. This will allow you to replace your current Gen1 Skid Plate and install the new gas tank skid plate together with it.

After doing the Gen1/ install, and thank you for your tips, are the fasteners that were installed with the original installation still used?
That installation was not fun.

Is the same hidden hardware utilized? Dealing with them the first time sucked.

My pleasure, and will let you know after I complete my install if someone does not beat me to it. I've received the new transfer plate and am waiting on my replacement engine skid plate before I crawl back under so I can knock this out all at once, and I expect that will be delivered sometime in February.

I'm about to go through that fun this weekend. I didn't think the transfer skid plate was that challenging to install. I decided i don't want to be laying on the asphalt under the car, i'm renting a bay with a lift to do the work.

Also note.... if you install the front control arm protection plates you have to have the v2 cross member from the engine protection kit or you can't install it.
Remember those standoffs that was part of the kit (looked a it like wide washers), they are not used when you install the control arm protection plates, the control arm plates attaches between the cross bar and the frame. I talked to rival about it and they have the cross member in stock and sending it out to me before the engine skid plate is ready to ship.

when i talked to them they indicated march for the updated engine skid plate. I didn't want to wait that long so i got them to send me the cross bar, that way the engine skid plate should just come straight off and go back on.

of all the parts i've installed from rival, the engine skid plate was the most difficult. The gas tank protection doesn't look that hard but its bulky and some of the bolts are not super easy to get to. I thought the transfer skid plate and the rear control arm skid plates where easy to install as was the diff skid plates. Use some WD-40 in the threaded holes to clean them out before installing. Mine was full of crud, no rubber plugs protecting them except on the diffs.

I screwed up and ordered two sets of control arm skid plates. probably need to put that second set in the classifieds section.

I’d really like to protect the gearbox sump before some Spring trips. Any update on steel skid availability, or should I grab a Rival?

Does the skid plate for the tank replace the original protection or is the Rival plate fitted in addition to the standard part?
