Thanks TomD.That’s the centre diff lock isn’t it?
Ouch!!!! You are so right. I was totally distracted by the electric front & rear diffs I forgot the mechanical centre one.
Thanks TomD.That’s the centre diff lock isn’t it?
Yup, that's the bit I was thinking about - manual neutral selection, not the emergency tow-it-home nut underneath. There is a nut on the side to put it into true neutral its in the manual. Not sure if you can leave the stick in the middle Ala Land Rover 110 (danger of it slipping back in) or the neutral screw holds in in neutral for flat towing.View attachment 7807460
Its not a proprietary box IG designed it and Tremec make it.Yup, that's the bit I was thinking about - manual neutral selection, not the emergency tow-it-home nut underneath.
Looking at the hi/lo shift selector rod there are only the two detentes on the rod. If there were three then there'd be a central neutral spot just like the JLR boxes of old.
I thought the "tow it home nut underneath" was a standard ZF bit. I'd be curious to know if it's still there?Yup, that's the bit I was thinking about - manual neutral selection, not the emergency tow-it-home nut underneath.

Yup, according to the book it's still there in one form or another.I thought the "tow it home nut underneath" was a standard ZF bit. I'd be curious to know if it's still there?
You'll be the one to explain this to my wife. Why would you be changing it "In the heat of battle"?
The vehicle is always in 4wd high range, you are never in 2WD
From there you have only a few choices that will be made when the vehicle is stopped or at slow speed.
- Stay in high range but lock the transfer case
- Only done on a loose surface when you will be travelling reasonably fast
- Off road mode probably selected first
- Change to low range centre transfer case unlocked
- Probably on a hard surface when towing a heavy load or pulling a boat up a ramp
- Low range centre diff locked
- Only done on a loose surface usually at slow speed
- Tyres are probably aired down
- Rear locker often also engaged at this time
- Front locker may be engaged.
- Selection of front or rear locker more likely to be done "in the heat of battle"
I am still confused as to why anyone is planning on letting their wife drive the Grenadier. You'll be the one to explain this to my wife.
When I've had too many, and ill be damned if I'm leaving the Grenadier in the pub carpark overnightI am still confused as to why anyone is planning on letting their wife drive the Grenadier.
I have always been a little crazy.I am still confused as to why anyone is planning on letting their wife drive the Grenadier.
I have always been a little crazy.
I know a lot of cases where the husband/boyfriend/life partner has too many and gives the keys to their wife/girlfriend/etc etc only to see her get done for driving over the limit. When I've had too many, and ill be damned if I'm leaving the Grenadier in the pub carpark overnight
My wife gets annoyed if I drive her car as I adjust the mirrors, seat height, backrest angle, position and then the radio station and volume.I have always been a little crazy.
On the other hand, I may drive her SLK as well.
My wife doesn't really drink! so no worries there then, unless they up the alcohol content of lemonade!I know a lot of cases where the husband/boyfriend/life partner has too many and gives the keys to their wife/girlfriend/etc etc only to see her get done for driving over the limit.
My wife and I walked up to an RBT caravan at the end of our street after we had both had 3 glasses of wine and they tested us just for fun
She was 0.04 and 15 minutes later at 0.06 with no more drinks
I was 0.02 and then 0.03
She weighs around 40-45kgs
I am 3 times that
So it is unfair for me to make her the designated driver as in reality she could only have 1 drink, maybe 2
So I only drink water or 1-2 glasses of wine
If we know we both want to drink we get a lift from a friend or a taxi
What's good for the gander is good for the gooseI am still confused as to why anyone is planning on letting their wife drive the Grenadier.
Or the other way around ... why would a woman driver let her partner drive it ;-)I am still confused as to why anyone is planning on letting their wife drive the Grenadier.
Exactly.Or the other way around ... why would a woman driver let her partner drive it ;-)
Pretty sure I already posted this here about a year ago but here we go againWhat's good for the gander is good for the goose
If the gander trips and breaks his arms when remote, he turns into a goose.
Speaking to people leads me to believe that not every goose feels comfortable flying in a helicopter.
Logic thus dictates the other half should know how to drive a shared 4x4
Your marriage will never last if you keep that sort of thing goingBy the way, my wife drive all my ( our ) cars.
