Thank you to the Forum for the Classified section. The ability to Sell and buy parts and accessories has increased the joy of ownership. Just in the last few weeks I have successfully sold un-needed steel wheels, purchased wanted alloy wheels, and a Spare Tire lockbox. This has all been through a system of "Trust" of each other. (Selling, shipping 5 steelies can be expensive). So first I want to thank the Forum for allowing this kind of activity.
SCAM ALERT ! During my recent flurry of selling and buying, I was nearly scammed, so be on the alert! One evening, I received a personal message from what appeared to be a member of the Forums. They informed me that they might know a fellow who had the item that I listed on the "Wanted" Classified section. They told me that they had not seen the user on the forums in a while, but I could email them directly. The message provided an email address. Being old and not much wiser than I was when I was not old...I emailed. I received an near immediate response, and price. I told the emailer (scammer) to calculate shipping and let me know. (For some tiny degree of security, I tried to engage him in conversation about his Grenadier and when, how, why the item for sale was removed, and what he was doing to replace, why selling, etc. In only a moment or two came the shipping quote with NO response of my other questions. Hmmm. I was starting to wake up. The scammer asked for Venmo. I put his address into the Venmo system but was careful not to send. I got a Venmo warning to enter the phone # of the recipient for security. I emailed the scammer and asked for his phone number. I wanted to see how far this was going to go. Instead of some phone number the scammer told me to scroll down and click on the tiny link that told me to send the money "without verification." I emailed the scammer and said "I was out." and I was indeed out. No correspondence was or has been received since, from the scammer. I reported to the Grenadier Forum contact, who thanked me for the info. As I looked harder into all of this, It appears that someone obtained the sign on credentials of a non active/ little used account to message me appearing like they were a present forum user. They (I am sure the scammer and original message sender were the same) enticed me to go outside the forum and use direct email. Just be a little careful and realize sometimes the risk does not equal the reward.
