Stockton Beach Fire

As long as the owner is very familiar with what's under the seat and hasn't pile up tons of stuff on top.
Actually getting to the cables isn't that easy on the starter battery.
Unless you have some tin snips.
But you can install a kill/disconnect switch, and you should have enough time to get to it.

Rescueme Rescue tool, best $20 you'll ever spend, we carry them on our PPE. Carry one in the glove box or on your key ring.
Added.

My Michelin Tyre pressure gauge also could smash glass and cut seat belts.

I carry a fire stick in all my cars but remember the point is just to suppress the fire to get everyone out safely, not to save the car.

My old escort has a plumbed in lifeline system again but even that won’t save the car, it’s just to enable safe egress.

I find this highly concerning. I do hope we can find out more information later. Really not acceptable if it’s a stock vehicle with no mods.

I’ve literally just got back from visiting my dealer to identify a strange knocking noise in my engine bay. No luck, will have to revisit.
Need to find out the cause before jumping to conclusions, within a couple of weeks of launch there was a brand new LC300 burnt out in QLD, grass accumulation around DPF. Many things this could be, possibly aftermarket accessories, if the had been dragging chassis through sand could be dry grass or seaweed collecting around exhaust or DPF etc.

The other important and underated tool is a VICTORINOX Swiss Army Knife Rescue Tool. After my big crash, I was able to hand my rescue tool out the broken driver's window so the battery cables could be cut, to reduce the risk of fire. I had enough problems without a fire.

I could hardly move but because it was on top inside the centre console, I reached in blindly and using touch got it out even though I was trapped. I even managed to get it back as part of my personal items some time later.
Can you send a link to the one you have please?

BMW have been in hot water over the last 12 months in the UK following a series of police car fires relating to sitting idleing for hours and then being used at full speed. I can't imagine that has happened with this Grenaider, but it makes you think that it may be following form...

Those police cars had the older N57 engine. Australian police cars have the B57&B58 versions and are OK

In the UK, our Police service have been tipping their BMWs in to Brightwells auctions for the last 18 months - most of which with their "dangerous" diesel engine blocks drilled so that no innocent member of the public can be burned to a crisp. This has been the case for N57 (which would really all be out of service by now) vehicles and B57 powered Beemers such as this 330d:

It's an absolute waste of taxpayers money that no news outlet has bothered to pick up.
