Starter Battery Drain; How to stop ECU's etc from consuming battery when door opens?

So I did some testing on mine. If you leave it unlocked and do NOT move the key in anyway but open the door no lights at all come on. I left door open and there was no drain on the batter for 4 hrs. If I wake the key up lights come on and I do see battery drain.

Forgot to add let the car go into sleep and the battery sit without moving for more than 1 min 39 secs.

That's an interesting question. I was out messing around in my driveway yesterday, locked my vehicle with the double tap to turn off the white/amber exterior lights. Walked away for a few minutes and picked up my key and noticed as soon as I moved it the lights came back on. I literally looked down at my key and said "what the hell" to myself.

Hmm.....maybe a small Faraday bag could be used for the key to reduce battery draw down.

Maybe the answer is to just defeat the "door is open" switch. Mechanically or electrically.

i.e. let the truck think its doors are always closed, even when they're open

Bonus advantage: you could do slow speed manoeuvres while hanging out the driver's door so you can see where your line or tires are at. (For now, the truck dumps its transmission back into "P" when I'm rolling backwards slowly in "R" and then open the door to see where I'm at. )

Not if you activate off road then you can open the doors and drive along

Similar issue with Subaru Impreza... walk near it with key in pocket and it's suddenly wide awake ... a foil envelope over the key fob was the answer

I think they call it a magneto sensor. FYI it is also a BMW key fob with a new wrapper. I was curious on this bc I noticed the Grenadier acts a lot like my BMW's do.

What pisses me off, is that Ineos makes such a big deal about having a physical key (i.e. old school), however, puts all the electronics in place that seems to support keyless entry and probably push button start/stop. This approach then drains the battery and renders the physical key useless!!!!

I shit you not, the turning of the key probably engages a Rube Goldberg machine that presses a start/stop button inside the dashboard.

They really hired some dipsht team for some aspects of this vehicle.. make zero sense

The Dr Roc guide says that you should let the vehicle go into sleep mode before disconnecting the battery, a few minutes.

Due to BMW they can’t sell to the military. As for mine sites Ineos would love to get into that market but…. until they open up their diagnostic system to 3rd parties, remote sites won’t be particularly interested. Timely spares support also needs to be proven.

On some new machines if the isolator is flipped too early before the controller/gateway modules shut down the system it plays havoc with the system and over time control/gateway modules start having issues or randomly glitch. These modules may be part screen with the security so the screen and module is changed as one unit. Sometimes a reflash of the module fixes the issues. North American equipment has less issues but most Euro or Euro powered equipment has the most issues followed by some Japanese gear. Also you can start running into issues with Adblue system because the system can not purge the injector line and can cause crystalisation of the Adblue in the line. Some trucks and machines will have a tell-tale light that let's you know it's safe to isolate.

Kinda kicking around using the ODB port. When AAA changes a battery, they connect a 12V source through the ODB to prevent the potential oddities that occur with power loss and the new fancy electronics.

I'd support and buy, in a heartbeat, a Grenadier with NO fancy electronics or power windows etc. Less fluff.

I noticed this today as well. Parked my car on the driveway with “Refuel now” level of gas left. Locked it went inside for a coffee. Went back outside to move an ATV and all of a sudden I hear the loud “Booiiiing” sound from the car. I thought, what the hell is the car making noises for?? Had the key in my pocket at the time…

Most curious, I was sat in the supermarket car park waiting for the wife. Radio off, key not in the ignition and after 10 minutes it was still drawing 6A current. I presume everything shuts down after you have opened the car door to get out.
