I learned it the hard way when I went 121 instead of 110 km/h in 1997 near Brisbane.
It costed me 200 Australian Dollars that I didn’t had…
In Germany going 140 km/h in an old Defender is just harmful to the car and your ears ( I tried it once and measured 94 DB)
And you ran out of fuel half way down the road!!!

No, I crashed the car, an 13 year old ford fairplane, and had other problems 😬
The evening after I walked the beach at Gold Coast (https://maps.app.goo.gl/fUZZ5aEAmHtjUWL69?g_st=ic)
and a middle aged Mideast man, totally drunk asked me some things:
a) whether I would drive his Porsche from the club he has been to his home- I friendly said no
b) whether I could buy him a bottle of whiskey from a liquor shop- I said “ok” and he gave me a 100 Dollar note from his slipper (he had some of this notes in his shoe)
c) whether I knew something about weapons- I told him that I left the army two weeks before and that I knew something about them
d) whether I could help him to get the cocaine which would be brought in from sea to the rocks at the beach in the night here: (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Yksrd6uVL1bGw7wJ8?g_st=ic)
At this moment I told him good night and went away. Later the night I went to the rocks by the sea and indeed some person was hiding there.

Till today I am angry with my self that I did not call the police that night. Wrong decisions most times can’t be corrected 😕

Seems like the Gold Coast has not changed much since your last visit!

Probably good thing you didn't phone the Gold Coast cops in those days ....😈
At 121km/hr is probably felt like a Ford "Fairplane....." at 100km/hr they drive like a Ford Fairlane... 😂
The Ford Fairlane was a favourite car for farmers for years due to its roominess and long wheelbase.. which gave a comfortable ride over long distances from the farm to "town"

As a person who lives on the Gold Coast (but certainly not native) - this I can relate to. You live here to make your liberty then get out! Great beaches and Hinterlandb though. The people are all over the shop... lol.

I told a girl from my hostel this story shortly afterwards and she just didn’t talked to me anymore. I do understand that she thought I am a lyer

👌🏻 I obviously didn’t remember the name right as the car never made it to Europe. I do remember that I circled into a rock and the car just changed its outer form m from rectangular to a parallelogramm…
