Roof rack from Leitner Designs coming soon

It took me a couple of tries to get it together right as well, but now that it's installed, I think it's a really first rate piece of kit. I also got 2 gear pods during the sale, quite happy all around. Side note, I also purchased the Leitner bumper light mount, also fantastic.

No. Not in my experience anyways. The rear of the rack is the highest point as measured on my truck with no weight in the rear, to include when my safari windows are open.

I know this because I can clear my garage door by 1/2 inch and it's only closest at the rear (flat garage slab and less than 1% approach incline from the driveway).

After mounting my Leitner rack I had a friend on a ladder observing and filming as I inched back into the garage for the first time. One of Leitner's reps actually suggested that I give up looking for a rack if I want to keep the truck parked inside; turned into a measure 8 times and buy once scenario. Jealous of @ColoradoMike's door clearance
Any thoughts on how much higher the rear is?

If you installed it and it fit in the garage, why did the Leitner engineer try to dissuade you?

Just installed mine, with me in the driver seat the height at the rear of the rack is about 81 5/16 inches. Stock Bridgestone17s.

I am at 82" at the rear. 32.7" tires (285/70R17), which are about 1/2" taller than stock. so same as MTNDOG with stock tires.

That does help. Just want to ask if that is with the inherent rake to the IG, that the rear of the rack is still lower in absolute terms than the windows?

I kind of had given up on a roof rack, but trying to shoe-horn skis inside made me realize exterior storage is more of a benefit than I realize.

Is there a dedicated roof rack system for skis that work with this roof rack?
Do you have the cargo door ladder? You could try one of the DVM ladder mounts...

Has anyone gone with enough extra slats to make a solid floor? If so, how many did it take?
This has been asked a few times but I never saw an answer or photos. Can’t find any with a google search either. Maybe no one does that. It seems like you would need two bars to fill each 8” gap between bars. That would be a lot of bars.

Another question is since the bars are movable I imagine it is the front frame bar that keeps you from removing the safari windows if you have a full length setup?

I have read this entire thread and will probably go Leitner now that I see they have a side pod which I have been looking for. They have one called a pantry in Australia but it needs proprietary side mount system. I like this Leitner setup with many accessories coming out.

Still would love to see a platform photo. I like the idea of sitting up there in a chair.

I think you are referring to expedition hq pantry setup. I have one and works great. Could probably order just the pantry box and fix to the leitner side kick. Mounts with 6 or so small bolts.

That is exactly what I was looking at. Looks great! I wonder about the side box on my Defender but is very handy for some recovery gear, airing down tools, etc. I just did not want to be tied into their proprietary side panel. Also coming from Australia.

I was happy to see that Leitner has the Gearpod. Maybe not quite as cool but would work. Would not be sure about the Pantry and if the holes would line up with Leitner side panel until I got it here.

These Torx wrenches are awesome if you have Leitner ACS roof racks.
