Given the dimensions of the engine and its "architecture" (a straight 6 cross flow with exhaust on rhs) with regard to the vehicle layout and the ground clearance requirements, I'm wondering where in the heck else the exhaust could be located without a radical redesign which most likely would include changing the chassis dimensions. Then there's the challenge of the thermal gradient between the exhaust and the floor so that one's left foot isn't toasted...
The shorter length of a similar capacity V6 or even a 'small' V8 might have solved the issue... I'm delighted it's a straight 6 ....even if I "have" to wear a platform shoe on my right foot and a sandal on my left foot and push the seat rearwards! 😄

Making the vehicle 100mm longer - that would be about the only solution given the architecture of the whole thing. To be honest - only us real life drivers who do 2 or 3 or 5 (000) kms will know what it does to our bodies - those who do not have a vested interest such as 'Car Reviewers' who may or may not earn income from 'positive reviews'.

The fact remains in your opinion it's a complete design stuff up or just in your opinion it's a complete design stuff up...IMO is a very difficult design problem well executed...we learn to live with problems...but as Albert said some people have problems for every solution...solution, do not order a Grenadier

Don't need to extend the chassis or make the whole thing longer, there's a big space in front of the engine allowing it to be mounted further forward. It looks like the bay was designed for a bigger or different engine than the BMW unit. Davman posted this pic a while ago, lots of spare real estate in there:

As much as I cringe at your constant negativity @trobex I would have liked another 100mm in the back, and if that had solved the HUGELY INAPPROPRIATE FOOTREST for some people then that would have just been a bonus.

It is not an opinion on the design matter - it is evident in the final product. The Australian engineers also discussed the issue and how the footrest was the "final solution" - to which I agree is the only option left add the design had bolted.

But you are right - it might be an issue for done and not others. Time will tell!

I'm used to it! I'm just pointing out things and only negative in the view of others (most others maybe?). I'm actually perpetually positive in all matters until I'm not!

100mm in the rest seating area would have been a godsend! 👍

Was reading somewhere that it was deliberately placed rearwards to bring it almost behind the front axle which helps a lot with vehicle dynamics.

One person here after talking to the engineers the exhaust pipe needed to be extended by 100 mm then the floor could be flat. Apparently, there is heaps of room forward of the exhaust. I believe there will be a simple modification without doing any major structural changes. Warranty may be an issue.

Here’s a question: would you have sacrificed departure angle for a lower footrest? What about payload?
Nope, but I don’t have a problem with the footrest. I would have just liked another 100-200mm in the boot. I may have sacrificed a bit of rampover for that - thinking it would be nominal.

That is the perfect solution isn’t it. The ability to have more legroom on the small number of times I have someone other than my granddaughter in the second row, and the ability to get another 200mm of boot space by pulling second row seats all the way forward when we are traveling.

I wonder if an aftermarket track system could be developed for that??

In the past for long desert trips etc I’ve pulled the second row out, but that’s not always the best solution.

It would be nice if we had the CAD model or a pointcloud scan to assist but not as yet. Photos suggest it’s close to if not the standard BMW configuration:

WOW That looks complicated gone are the days of the Holden 186 still think it's doable. Just sent an email to Grenadier via SLRV being an engineering firm they may have a solution and be licenced to perform a mod. One can only try.

The engine was designed for BMW for LHD European markets. The rest of the RHF markets get what they get. Just a shame such an obvious flaw was not attended to though the QA design phases, or at least after the concerns were raises after PT01 RHD variants. We just have to live width the hump - as much as it will annoy some of us! - or sell it at a 25K premium if it sucks the life out of skeletal frame!

Still reckon we wait to see if it actually IS a problem. Right now, the only people that have driven it big k’s are Ineos guys. I’ve spoken to a couple of guys from SLRV who’ve driven them to Rocky and back, and an Ineos guy who’d driven from Melbourne to Brisbane over two days, and both had said it wasn’t a problem. So I’m hoping all your anxiety is just that - phantom worry.

Deep breath- wait for reality and then make a call. If it’s a worry for you, don’t order until you know, then it’s not a worry at all hey.
