There has been reports made to the NHTSA about doors opening whilst the vehicle is in motion. The risk of injury was assessed as low (with the exception of your underpants) because the audible and visual alerts provide notification of an unlatched door.
My wife had a door open when we were going around a corner. And there was no notice of the door not being “latched”
Scary as f$&@

I had it done today in a dealership, and they replaced all 5 door lock buttons and ignition cylinder, I even got two new car keys.

Will see if this will actually fix the door buttons getting stuck all the time.
Can you elaborate more about the new ignition cylinder and a set of keys? How did you go about getting this done? And how long did it take to receive? I have been waiting for a spare key for three months…

I had my door buttons serviced pursuant to a technical service advisory bulletin previously, and they were better behaved for a bit, but have now started intermittently sticking again - particularly after a rain or cold snap or in the early morning when condensation is covering everything. So, I'll be taking advantage of this recall, but I am hoping to do it at the same time as a software update(!).

The difference is you are waiting for a key pre-cut to your existing lock cylinders and programmed for your vehicle; with the recall apparently it is just a fresh set of keys and locks that match the key

I have the issue but lube it myself with a graphite spray. Question is do I keep doing that or have the dealer take things apart. My concern is they may create new problems or rattles. What do you all think?
Personally, I have a can of silicone in the garage and give it a spray every now again. As time goes on, I’m 100% certain the rubber washer inside will wear in. Having to change 4 doors is a very labouring job and the risk of trim clips and screws will go missing.

Maybe you can cancel the order and get some cash back?

This was inevitable. I'm not sure how they planned on selling the car to ski moms without fixing the latches. (Just one news story about how little Jimmy, 5, was traumatized on the highway and their image would be toast).

I joke, but it is a bit concerning with kids in the car AND passengers who wouldn't think to check the latches. I had to ask someone 3 times if the door was locked, they were adamant it was... but it wasn't.

Hopefully we can get the software update at the same time! 🫰

Sound advice

Glad they identified the issue and will be replacing buttons but I can’t say I’m very keen on having all the door cards cracked open, vapor barrier seals torn, various mechanisms jostled about along with the inevitable broken retaining clips, missing screws and high probability of loose or rattling panels afterwards. All that means is more long trips back and forth to the the dealer to have them re-sort their initial work.

Not horrible but not great especially when I haven’t experienced the sticking button issue yet.

I have sticky door buttons. They have misbehaved ever since I spent a week on the beach at Fraser. The dealer “lubricated” them but after a while they started to stick again.
In EVERY instance where it stays in or partially in, it has been obvious and you pull them out so you can close the door properly.
And if it’s happened to my passenger, either they can’t shut the door properly, or the door alarm has come up on the dash or honked at me til I sorted it.
How someone could ignore all that and just continue to drive before going around a corner and having the door swing open is beyond me.

Perhaps I’m just clever I don’t know.

So you’re saying there is a difference in time, meaning the pre-cut takes longer to arrive. Well that sucks. Guess I’ll contact the dealership and ask about the new set. I have had zero issues with the door buttons and really don’t want them to mess with that.
