The entire “if it just saves one life” emotional argument is how governments begin the process of taking away your freedoms. Life and freedom come with risks. Everyone dies only a few people actually live.
Well, the idea behind this is that someone’s freedom stops there where someone else freedom is compromised, or even worse, that someone else is getting killed because of someone’s freedom. I think this make more sense than someone’s unlimited freedom idea.

True freedom, like vehicles are a series of compromises - The UK is a small island with a lot of people in it, so if my neighbour or I do something antisocial, like playing excessively loud music or polluting the air, it has an impact on many people around me. My freedoms impact on the freedom of others around me; the law tries to balance my freedoms with those of my neighbours.

UK property law talks about "quiet enjoyment" for tenants that seems like a reasonable aim to me. For a landlord, that means they do not have a right to contact their tenants at any time of the day or visit without an appointment, booked in advance. (They can in an emergency, but the Courts get to confirm what an emergency is, if there is any doubt).

And back on topic, unless the newer software releases are different, you can turn down the volume of the bongs in the "settings" menu.

Ineos Automotive is still a very new manufacturer of vehicles, so some choices will be illogical to the external observer; the EU and CARB vehicle requirements will dominate the choices made, as any changes from a single specification become expensive, in terms of testing, compliance, inventory and development time.

@Jeremy996 do you have some insider knowledge on in-progress software efforts? So this tweak on the bong is forthcoming?

No insider knowledge; I have an early truck, page 156 of the UK manual says:-

Equalizer Set the Equalizer settings to the preferred frequency.
Fader / Balance The Fadar / Balance (if applicable) can be chosen for the speaker outputs within the vehicle.
Volume Settings
Here the volume settings can be set by the user. Settings, such as, the volume at Vehicle Start, Volume Minimization, Speed Dependent Volume Control and Notification Volume.
PDC Sound
Here the PDC sound volume can be adjusted between a range of 0-14. The higher the number the higher the volume will be.
Input Sound
The input sound volume can be adjusted in a range of 0-14. The higher the number the higher the volume will be.
Warning Sounds The Warning Sounds can be set to either Low, Middle or High volume.
Reset Acoustic Settings
Resets all acoustic settings to the default values, the user will be asked to confirm before resetting.

My Warnings Sounds are set to low, after I "RTFMed" - Read The Flippin' (substitute your favourite F-word), Manual.

Gotcha. The bong sound in question is used for -fuel level, service reminder, cargo door ajar, etc.

That sound is not impacted by the warning sound level configuration. Makes zero sense. Or perhaps the high decibel is in-fact the low volume setting

My truck was built on 14/02/2023.
I have set the warning sounds to low - high was too much for me, even though I'm getting deaf.

Gren Software - 1.jpeg

This gives my current software version:-

Gren Software - 2.jpeg

And this shows the current warnings held by the vehicle.

Do you know which software release you have and what volume settings you have for the various sounds?

And bringing this back on topic. My underlying point is that the US is a large enough market that we shouldn’t be forced to have firmware that is designed to meet other markets regulations. True to the American spirt we place more weight on individual responsibility and our IG firmware should reflect that. Ferrari produces about 12,000 cars a year and doesn’t have all these silly bongs.

New software would require new compliance testing - there are already complaints that the Grenadier is too expensive, so you are just adding cost that needs to be recouped. Ineos Automotive is already GBP1.7Billion underwater, so I cannot imagine that extra cost would be popular.

Capitalism can bite, too. The margin is much better on a Ferrari.

I seriously doubt that you need to retest compliance for lowering the fuel level bong or allowing the persistent disabling of a “safety” warning that the US doesn’t require. If I’m wrong on this than I welcome someone to site the source of their information.

As for the GM and more importantly the net income for Ferrari? I don’t have any information on that. Do they report separately from Fiat group?

Ferrari turns quite an outsized profit by ensuring scarcity. Like those stupid French handbags, They have a good idea what they are going to make before the product even hits the market.

Can't argue on the volume, personally I don't think we need any noises as they are distracting, we have an info screen that can tell us what's wrong
My issue is it’s become the Boy-who-cries-wolf. I just zone out from the bongs, but worry I’m going to end up stuck on a hard shoulder somewhere

Drove the IG first time in rain, since ownership in late summer. (Mainly drove to see how the safari windows fare against the rain). During the drive realized several aspects of new annoyances with the vehicle software. Posting contemporaneous notes here to vent, laugh at the vehicle, and see how others deal with it.

- when front wiper is on with the gear in reverse, the rear wiper come on automatically. This cannot be overridden!? I spent 30 seconds or so trying to determine if I had accidentally triggered rear wipers.
- the rear wiper motor is loud and of low value given the poor visibility out the back. I wish I can override this auto-on behavior.
- while backing into my sloped garage and trying manage the cacophony of noises - the rear wiper motor whirring + rear pdc beeps + heavy rain drops dotting the roof (soothing by itself) + engine revving, I get bonged once for orange fuel level, because vehicle is at an angle ( oh no 1/4 tank remaining!). Then the software escalates to red fuel level with two additional bongs 2 seconds apart to “refuel now!!” (Still at 1/4 tank). I was startled and nearly backed into my workbench.

Holy-shit Ineos explicitly tries to engineer a non-serene driving experience. The amount of auditory garbage it overzealously outputs is dangerous for zero good reasons.

Come to think of it.. everything comes down to the tenacity of that “BONG” audio file. Big🖕to whomever originated it and the sign-off chain for that BONG.
The rear wiper "issue" is also a thing I want to get rid off, and also ...
When in rear, what I do every time I get 🏡, the parking sensors signals overrule my 📻. I hate it: I always miss some new or other interesting information

I can't imagine that the low fuel bong is designed for any market. Nothing special about the US here, it is annoying for everyone.

The motor business is well served by analysts too, "Industry analyst Felipe Munoz crunched the numbers for Ferrari and a raft of other brands, calculating the Prancing Horse made €117,927 (~A$192,221) in operating profits per vehicle sold in 2023 – around five times more than the next most profitable manufacturer."

The vehicle software is part of the safety systems, compliance is nowhere near as onerous as the aeroplane business, but more than enough to be costly. (I have clients who work for JLR within engineering compliance and clients who are freelance compliance consultants in wider engineering fields). Whenever I moan about the Grenadier systems, they are happy to defend the choices made with reference to work on their own vehicles.

This is not my world, but I can appreciate a complex system when I see one; I was astonished when the economic and compliance impact of changing the shifter for the gearbox was explained.

To turn my rear wiper off if has auto enabled by going into reverse, I have to be in Drive, then turn all of my wipers off and wait several seconds before turning the front wipers back on. This is clearly just more negligence on INEOS's part. The one saving grace is there is absolutely nothing lost by just unplugging the thing.

After my rear wiper auto engages with reverse, it automatically shuts off as soon as I shift out of reverse.
