Hello everyone,

I’m new to the forum and currently in the research stage for an Ineos Grenadier. I don’t own one yet, but I’m giving it serious consideration. My interest was sparked about a month ago when I saw a Grenadier wagon on static display at Westfield UTC in San Diego. While checking it out, I had a great conversation with an owner, which pushed me to start looking into the vehicle more seriously.

I’m not new to off-roading. I’ve owned a 1994 Hummer wagon since 1996. The Hummer has been a great off-road truck. However, its on-road refinements are less than desirable. Since I live about three hours from the nearest Ineos dealer, either in San Diego or Phoenix, I’m trying to gather as much information as possible before making the trip.

I'm looking forward to learning from the community here and hopefully making the transition from researcher to owner soon!

Cheers,
Rick in Yuma

Hi Rick. Welcome here. There is a lot of excellent information here. If you read along for a while, you will quickly realize which posts will help you make a decision. Keep trying to make contact with owners though, you might meet a few more in your area. And don't let posts put you off. It is an excellent vehicle. Even if there are things that could have been done better, such as the heating and air conditioning system.

Thank you, Rovie.

So far, I’ve found the information here to be incredibly helpful. I’ve been active in other forums before and have learned to distinguish between the disenfranchised owners and the true enthusiasts. I’m already on episode three of Stu and Krabby’s podcast, and between that and this forum, I think I’ll have all the data I need to make an informed decision.

Living in the middle of the Sonoran Desert and with Yuma being the sunniest city in the U.S., your comment about air conditioning definitely caught my attention. Early Hummer models had similar issues, particularly with the wagon variant, where the A/C struggled to cool the entire cabin. Some owners, myself included, installed a custom-made, clear plastic curtain between the back seats and the cargo area to help retain cool air. Later, a secondary A/C condenser and fan were mounted in the cargo area, similar to a residential mini-split system. I have no doubt that, over time, Ineos will refine and improve the Grenadier’s climate control system.

I’ll be in the Phoenix area on 4 February. I’ll be near the Scottsdale dealership and hope to be able to stop in and take a closer look.

Rick.

Just to put it into perspective. My air conditioning cools the interior well when the outside temperature is high and the heating warms the interior well when it's cold. However, you can't regulate the temperature evenly in fine increments. There are always jumps from time to time. After switching off the ignition and restarting, however, the temperature can be completely different again. I can cope with this and can live with it. But it's not a G Wagon that works perfectly. At least that's my experience.
