Melvill & Moon

Melvill & Moon seat covers are now available for the Grenadier.

image002.png

Melvill & Moon pioneered the use of removable, washable, 100% canvas seat covers for the 4x4 and farm vehicle market over 24 years ago.
With seat cover manufacture now a growing industry, our insistence on high quality fabrics (especially woven heavy duty, 510gsm 100% cotton canvas), our commitment to ongoing design improvement and customer service has seen us remain the benchmark in the industry.

Our seat covers are water repellant, rot-proofed, fully washable and handmade from natural cotton.
They are breathable, cool and comfortable to sit on.

Melvill & Moon Seat Cover backstory

Since 1998 our Seat Cover department has been an important leg of the business. The original seat covers that inspired us were on the East African bush planes ferrying visitors and gear in and out of Nairobi’s Wilson airport to far flung lodges and camps across East Africa.
Our approach was to put quality vehicle specific tailor made design around this idea.
And so it was that Melvill & Moon kicked off a manufacturing industry in 1999. Our insistence on high quality fabrics (especially woven heavy duty, 510gsm 100% cotton canvas), our commitment to ongoing design improvement and customer service has seen us remain the benchmark in the industry. To this day we still work hard to stay ahead, bring you the latest developments and patterns for the latest car releases.

Really wanted to go with the M&M (Dark Charcoal), however been waiting for some time and no response at all, no sort of acknowledgement outside of the auto generated email saying "service liaisons will be in contact". Not exactly inspiring.
Can you clarify how long you mean by "sometime?"

I submitted my order for tan seat covers back in end of August/early September (which probably took about 1 - 2 weeks of playing email tag, until I actually paid). That being said, I only just received an email yesterday (after over a couple of months of not hearing anything, and having my credit card charged) mentioning that my covers are going into QC and will be shipped sometime soon. Communication has been very slow, but I can imagine they are swamped with orders. By the time they arrive here - it will likely have been over +3 months from the time I first submitted the order inquiry.

I had good communication with Kirsten Smith: sales@melvillandmoon.com (although it's typically always 24-48 hours response time - likely due to time zone difference and working hours). Bottom-line, I'd say, don't expect typical US-based response/correspondence, but know that they'll likely get to you - at some point...and if not, just email them. All signs point to the fact that they are a small, but legit company which makes a great product - you just have to be super patient.

Now that I've had my seat covers for a while and have been sitting on them with dirty clothes, I decided weeks ago to order the protection for the centre console. I've already driven my Disco 360,000 kilometres and my arm is always on the cubby box. You can tell by looking at it. I want to avoid that with the Grenadier. The cover arrived today. I put it on straight away and I'm happy with it.

I am assuming that you have probably mentioned it on another thread, as I have noticed half of your centre console seems to be missing. 😃

Very nice. Like the Dark Charcoal w\Leather (should help with wear and tear as get in and out of seats).

Exactly, that's the reason why I chose leather. It's not about the look. Form follows function.

You pay attention to the details. Yes, I removed the panelling of the centre tunnel and the centre console, as well as the panelling under the steering wheel, back in the summer. I wanted to find the cause of the condensation (not coolant!). However, not a single drop has appeared since the summer despite running the air conditioning. See my post in the thread

I still have to replace the gearbox (and have the software update too). However, nothing is pressing me, as I have no problem with either. But I will schedule the replacement in the spring. Apparently the workshop will then also remove part of the trim (probably?). Then I'll leave the trim off until then. I'll screw the screws back in, then the loose parts won't vibrate so much.

Hi Minidock
Didn’t have to remove anything but it is a tight squeeze and an area which I feel I can still improve. I also used a plastic trim tool like a large scraper in order to tuck the seat cover into the joint where seat back meet’s cushion.
Hi Cheshire Cat,
Would you mind posting a picture of what your front seat covers look like?
I got my Gren yesterday and basically had to jump straight into work, so temporarily fitted my drivers seat for me, but hastily.

These were taken minutes after fitting. I think as they settle in to the seat, I can attain an even better fit.

Sorry one last question, the bottom straps of the seat cushion, did you thread those between seat and back?
I did thread as you suggested. Used a plastic wide blade trim tool to push the covers down the same space. My arthritic fingers weren’t up to the job. 😊

Before I spend a small fortune on what I think are the best looking seat covers, those who have them - are they worth it? I would be looking at the ones with the leather trim.

How much did they quote you, including shipping?

Haven’t made it that far, I’m just looking at the price of the covers themselves. When it comes to shipping I was hoping to maybe get a bit of a group buy to knock that down some.

Off the top of my head, Without digging up my quote and looking (it’s from September 2023), you are looking at around $850 USD, including spare wheel cover, shipped, to your home in USA. That’s for the deluxe seat covers, plus spare wheel cover. Shipping and taxes included etc…
