Loadspace Drainage Plug

So, following on from these two threads:

The online Owner's manual (page 202) states "Remove the trim panel located just inside the rear loadspace entrance. This will give access to the rear drain plug inside the loading area." By this, I thought they were referring to either trim panels immediately behind the wheel arches. They were not.

The hard copy Owner's Manual (page 248) refers (correctly) to removing the rear tailgate scuff panel to give access to the rear loadspace drainage plug.

So for me, that means taking out these two parts:

The plug itself, as described by @Jean Mercier does seem to suffer from a very loose spring pin and soon falls apart:

If you loose a pin then it's 20mm long and approx 2.75mm diameter:

However, it's an easy fix to go around them all now (I'm assuming they will all be loose) and just slide partially them out, adjust outwards (widen) with a tip of a screwdriver and press them back in to be the interference fit they actually should be:

I should have said the scuff panel comes out by removing the 8 small plastic thumb wheel nuts.

i should add whilst doing this I found two more features:

Another earthing fixture showing poor installation technique (located inside the removeable trim panel on the right hand side of the loadspace):

Oooh shit, I removed some days ago the whole carpet, but not the "scuff panel assy", and thought "no drain plug"! And thought OK, the other plugs are lower, therefore this was on purpose!

Why is it so complicated?

[EDITED] by the way, why is your status still "contract signed" instead of "Owner", did you steal a Grenadier from somebody? :ROFLMAO: :eek::love:

I have mine on sale or return - I didn't ask for a test drive, just a cumulative number of hours to inspect at my own pace. wink.

Complicated - yes, I didn't realise that the printed copy of the Owner's Manual is right for some things and the online version is wrong; and for other things the online version is correct and the printed copy wrong. Then for some things they are both right; and for other things both are wrong!

We have @Jean Mercier to thank for the tip regarding the self destructing drainage plugs. I'm absolutely sure I'd have lost the pin for mine without him posting of his experience first.
I hope my son is still searching for the pin in his garden in Hungary :eek: :ROFLMAO: ... but I doubt about it :mad: :ROFLMAO:

At the big airports they have cars with a big magnetic crossbar underneath hanging very close to the surface, and they drive over the runways and taxiways. They always come back with a large amount of scrap iron hanging from the magnet.

So find a 1 m long magnetic bar and scan the garden. ;)
