Left foot braking

Do you brake with your left or right foot?

If like me you have been brought up on manual, there are some advantages to left foot braking....

- if your stop/start has turned off, a dab on the accelerator with your foot on the brake will restart - quite useful in heavy traffic

- you can get a quicker move off the line by revving it up and then releasing the brake

- Likewise you can make a bit more progress on twisty roads by getting back on the power a bit earlier

- off road a certain amount of left foot braking helps control your speed.
 
I switch back and forth depending on what the type of driving. Definitely helps during off road driving. There is a minor hill hold feature so you should need to left foot brake when starting on a hill.

If I remember, I always turn off the auto start/stop feature. It’s bad for the engine and annoying in general. I forgot yesterday on my drive home and the only time it activated was when I pulled into my garage. Before I put it in park, the engine turned off. When the transmission shifted to park (about 1 second later) the engine fired back up before I could turn the key off. Useless!
 
Please don't load the torque converter to stall as the fluid temperature rises sharply and can/will damage it. Talking about seconds here.
 
Left foot braking is a absolute must when 4wding hard terrain with open diffs and no or next to no TC , even with good TC it can be very beneficial with the right terrain and technique
It also helps balances car when spirited driving and some fun is being had.
On fast outback dirt roads it is also useful for loading and unloading the front suspension when encountering dips and undulations
 
A throttle controller will help responsiveness in different situation immensely.
 
In an auto, right foot normally and occasionally left foot for slow work off road, unless in machinery that has an inching pedal or stall testing transmissions, we do a lot of stall tests for work. A lot of automatic trucks and buses it is awkward to left foot brake because of the steering column.
