On a rough surfaced paved road I get a knocking sound from the rear . Sounds like a heavy object is not tied down . Checked the jack & that is fine .

Something under the rear bench seats, or possibly in the spare wheel locker ( if you have one)

+1 on the jack. It is a common problem, worth checking.

I get the same over large potholes on the passenger side rear (based on UK vehicles having the steering on the correct side) or similar. After removing the spare wheel it stopped, they told me, put back on, tightened everything up but still get it??
It's not the jack or ladder, everything was removed and they had someone in the boot whilst driving round trying to sort

Heat shields under the car can cause noises as well. Once mine were tightened the noises went away.

It was the dealer that looked into it and said no knocking when the wheel was off, ill have to try it myself. I'm waiting for it to go back in for various including door seals and EGR coupling rod recall (engine warning light permanently on, using lots of adblue), I will add it to the list.

Worth a look, just to rule it out if the knock continues.

My dealer has had a few cars with the heat shield noise.

I had my engine warning light on (diesel). Plugged in generic reader and says something about catalytic converter bank 2 low threshold or something. If it’s this, then it’s the 02 sensor plugs underneath the car (they look identical). Ineos have managed to mix up the plugs 🫣. Ask dealer to switch them round and it should be ok. This was my issue, it may not be the same for yours.

My truck had a loud knocking that would happen going over bumps or rough roads. It progressively got worse when I was on a solo trip out in the desert. I crawled under and discovered a cable hanging down and rubbing against the front driveshaft rear coupling. I was able to zip tie it out of the way and have had zero issue since. There have been several others with the same problem and a few have caused the cable to melt from friction leaving them stranded. Yours is probably the jack but its worth crawling under to make sure there are no loose cables drooping down and hitting the driveshaft.
