Is my ignition cylinder defective?

Recently took delivery.
Yee Haw!!

My ignition cylinder has no detents.
Insert key, then turn; and the key glides smoothly all the way until it hits the spring that returns it from the start position.
It works fine. Just no clicks or stops along the way from off to run.

Are they all like this, or is mine not right?

That's how I felt with the demo truck I drove at RDS. It's like there's no resistance when inserting the key or when turning the ignition on. It's very binary feeling.

Noticed same on my test drive the other day. Makes me wonder if it is just basically a start/stop button that uses a key instead of a button, no ACC. Position

I noticed the same on my test drive yesterday. It didn't really register then, but now that you pointed it out, yep, same here.

Mine is like that as well, very weird feeling

Owner of a ‘23 UK Fieldmaster which does have two detents in the key ignition.
  1. One detent in the ‘off’ position (ie when I insert the key, turn it very slightly and let it return I can feel it notch back into place.)
  2. One detent in the ‘on’ position when the car powers up, dash lights come on etc.
  3. No detent that I can feel when twisting all the way to start the engine, but that’s normal as it’s a momentary action I think.

Yes, I've that but no indent for the "AUX" position. Neither when I come back after turning engine/ignition off, but if I pause it at what would be the "aux" position (ie key nearly vertical) engine stops and ignition off but axillaries are still on, USB ports, phone connection, screen menu functions.

I noticed the same lack detents when I sat in a NAS 24 model to listen to the radio w/ subwoofer. It was rather odd and I question why something so traditional as an ignition switch wasn't as expected.

Is it real or just electronic? I mean, if the battery is dead, will using they key in the cylinder, unlock the steering wheel?

I think it will.
There is a mechanical link (accompanied by a slight click) when moving off the counterclockwise stop as evidenced by the inability to remove the key if you are off the stop.

Just nothing tactile from where that click is until you hit the resistance of the momentary start return spring.

Speaking of ignition... If i leave the keys in the ignition and I open the door, there's no warning chime.

Same here. You don’t even have to keep the key turned until the engine has fired up either. Just a quick turn and it starts. Makes a change from my old fiesta with a dodgy Bendix unit.
