I am currently looking for insurance quotes in the UK as I take delivery in Feb (yay!). The car has finally appeared on insurance company websites this week BUT when you go through the online quotation process they all say you need to speak to someone in person regarding specialist coverage (and they then come back with daft quotes based on it being a "specialist off road vehicle). LV is the only one which has given an online quotation at all.

Has anyone else managed to get a proper quotation from anywhere else?

LV seem to be the winner on value and NFU are worth a call.

Great. Yes LV is the only one I have got to quote yet. Admiral weren't willing to look at it for my multicar policy until their specialist team looks at it next week.

Adrian Flux are going away to "reconsider it" after having initially said £1500 and me telling them to take their comedy quote and stick it somewhere. LV online has said £730 with my wife as another driver, and £890 for me alone. So we are getting there...

How does the price go down if you list a second driver? If that's the case, why would anyone "be alone?" Just list anybody else.

When you add a "lady wife" as a named driver I guess they are presumed to be a tempering factor on an otherwise lively young buck. Dunno really. It's the same on all my other cars. If I add my daughter the price skyrockets. So she won't be driving it!

NFU will quote - but if done today, vehicle needs to be on the road within 30 days, so did not proceed with the quote.

I then used Go-Compare and had 5 quotes come back, with some obvious options ticked such as courtesy car the cheapest was £457 with Hastings Essential (£367 without any options ticked). Most expensive another £100.

Go-Compare wouldn't give me one and directed me to their specialty department who still were not able to. Will look at them again. Thanks for the tip.

Nope. Go-C comes up blank. Perhaps you are considered a better risk than me...

I spent a long time on the phone with NFU but ended out having to have the quote referred to their underwriter. In the meantime I got quotes from LV and Admiral with Admiral being about £100 better than LV. Also had a quote from Sterling but that came back over twice the price of Admiral and LV. This afternoon I got a follow up call from Sterling and it seems they have been contacted by Ineos, to see if they would be interested in some sort of scheme. We had a lengthy chat about the product and business potential for Sterling (providing they "sharpen their pencil") I understand it is now back with the underwriters. I suspect Ineos have contacted a number of insurers so hopefully quotes may start being a little more realistic.

I discussed with my current insurer (NFU), not got a price yet but they say they are classing my field master as a commercial vehicle and will get back to me tomorrow. Started the process yesterday. They did not seem to have on their configurator. Hopefully good news tomorrow

Why is it cheaper when your wife is driving it as well?

NFU don't have it on their database, has to goto their underwriters. But only worth progressing if you have a delivery date within 30 days. I have a very vague date of February. I'm happy with the estimated £457 I had via Go-Compare website (the IG is on their configurator).
