First oil change

This oil was changed at 14k km and still looks good. The vehicle has been fully loaded for most of that distance and plenty of offroad. Petrol model 👍🏼
How did you reset the service due thing? Did It take about 6.8 qts as stated in the manual? What oil did you use, the 0w stuff or little heavier? I can't find anything about any fluid capacities or types in the manual anywhere, like what goes in the diffs, etc. Any guidance or suggestions? I did try the QR code in manual and its not working I guess.

A forum member kindly posted the attached pdf file a while ago. It contains oil specs and volumes for engine, diffs etc. Other commentary is bemoaning the fact that the service interval indicator has to be reset by the dealer.

As @DenisM has already posted the pdf file I used BMW spec 5w30 as that’s what I could get in South Africa and 7L was used as that brings upto the level for off road use apparently . I didn’t actually do the change myself but had it done at Ineos Kavango . Later on in the journey I had the service reminder reset whilst in Windhoek at the Ineos dealership.
Attached is the oil spec for the Southern African countries that I picked up from someone, don’t know who but they use a different spec as only a euro 4 compliant engine I understand.

I was talking to Expedition HQ staff when they did the electrical work last week about timing of the first oil change. The staff member had done a few oil and oil filter changes at 7,500km and said the oil and filter were in good condition with no obvious oil contamination, but no oils tests were done that I know about for fine contaminants.

So I will do my filter and oil change at or around 7,500km. I should be able to get XHQ to do it in May.
I have just done my first engine and oil filter change at 2500k and will do another at 5000k , most engine wear occures in the run in period so 13 or 14 litres and a couple of filters is cheap preventive maintaince .Used Petronas syntium 5000 5w-30 , had all of the important specs for the B57, recomended BMW long life oil . At $254 for 20ltr delivered seem reasonable to me .

That's my approach as well. Changed at around 1500 and next one will be at 5k which likely around it's first annual service. Will then be every 6 mos thereafter.

Sounds like a good policy ,I will do engine oil changes every 10000 km as I do with all of my vehicles . Not sure if you use miles or km in the UK

Sorry if I missed it earlier.
Any US owners have their first oil change? I saw thread earlier for Europe at a very high price. Just checking if US owners have any data they can share as sitting at 5,200 miles and going to schedule for around 6,000 miles. Thanks!

Just heard back from dealer: $550 - oil change ($210) + front and rear differentials + tire rotation.

Recommended schedule:
oil every 6k
Spark plugs 36k
front and rear diffs again at 45k
t-case 45k
transmission 45k
brake fluid 15-30k
power steering 4 years
coolant 4 years.
cabin filter 12k
air filter 20k

Those are some wild prices.

I did my first before 700 miles in Boise, and as I recall it was $200 - 300.

I had my local shop do one at 6267 miles for ~$230

Inside the 50k warranty period, I'll do the annual maintenance (R) with a dealer. Hopefully we get one a bit closer to home in the next few months.

Also note the QR code provided in the Owners Manual PDF is broken.

This is the maintenance schedule provided.

Independent mechanic ~$275 for oil change. Add in balance tires (all off by ~1.5 oz), rotation, drain transfer case and replenish oil (leaky, low by ~1 L) and various other minor checks - add an additional $500. Money well spent.
Agree - annual maintenance with Dealer and any warranty work.

Break in oil change at dealer today cost $150 and change - 1,100 miles. They used liqui-moly.

For those inclined to change their own oil, FCP Euro (USA) has an oil change kit (7 liters of the correct BMV oil and the correct oil filter, o-ring, and drain plug gasket for about $132.00. Because it’s a Grenny, everything is more or less in easy reach.

You will need:
1) Socket wrench and 17mm (drain plug) and 32mm ( oil filter cap) sockets.

2) Possibly a socket extender and universal joint

3) torque wrench

4) rags

4) 6.5 liters 0-20W, ACEA C2, BMW LL 17FE ( from Grenadier manual), new filter, o-ring, and drain plug copper washer. (Note… several owners have noted that you will in fact need a bit more than 7 liters to fully replace the oil.. better by an extra liter and save the remains for the next oil change as well.)

Oil reservoir cap and drain plug torque : 25Nm
