The thought of subscription-based car features is maddening. I think it’s been noted elsewhere on the site, but New Jersey USA has initiated legislation to ban the practice before it really gets traction.
Its probably copied from cloud computing. - So some new kid managers the way of services as they are available as cloud service. So ERP from that company - the Geocoding from there, address verification from this company. Also copiers and printers or even compressors - pay per use.
However - the difference is there is no Vendor lock in. - The communication is near "standard" REST SSL - so it should be relatively easy to plug in an alternative service.
The copiers/ printers and even air compressors - So if do a pay per print / pay per copy or even air volume - we do NOT care about any technology - paper, electric energy, toners or maintenance - is subject of the vendor. And so we look at competition.

In a car - you cannot kickout the seats and replace it by a subscription from another seat provider. So this is what I call vendor lock in.
It should be clear what is mine and what is vendors. - I do not purchase a car and pay extra on top. That has a fraudy / fishy smell.
I am glad at least in this case the government intervenes.

Also - I predict in case of Tesla and others - there will likely be hackers that go after software.. and perhaps a disabling and unlocking business that will be established.
With all (dis-) advantages and side effects such as court cases, legality etc.. Ownership topics etc.

In example Audi - had at least sometime its contract that vehicle data is transmitted to Audi - and either the purchase has to accept it or no purchase at all. This is the next escalation.

Do you happen to know how and when the "data" is transmitted to Audi....for example is it a download at service time or real time?
This is very interesting from a 'privacy' point of view... the again Google and others have been mining personal information for years....

  • Access ladder
  • High Load Auxiliary Switch Panel & Electrical Preparation
  • Interior Utility Rails
Access ladder - vehicle looks naked now to me without it and on inspecting the access ladder on the weekend it looked well seated on the door.

High Load Auxiliary - more of an investment in future accessories which I’ll regret later if I don’t. Discussion on this forum the last few months have really provided a solid level of detail on what this actually contains.

Interior Rails - seeing the vehicle again on the weekend the rails are well designed and don’t protrude. The recent discussion on this forum about Ineos and other suppliers offering a drawer accessory I think is a winner to level that back area out. I’m guessing the rails are required for this. Also seeing the additional pics DCPU was able to obtain on the Namibia vehicles it was clear to me for my purposes the Interior rails were a mandatory item (they used tie downs for 35” tyres in the back, bring it on).

:)
If you think you’ll need the “High Load Auxiliary Switch Panel & Electrical Preparation” and haven’t yet signed a contract I’d phone Ineos direct and raise a case to have this added. I had issues after the contract was issued but managed to get them resolved. Shouldn’t be any issues with adding the other items you want.

No, I am afraid I don't. - My colleagues told me who have Audi as company car. - So they had to sign the agreement that vehicle data is transmitted to Audi.
What exactly is being sent I don' know.

BTW I had to do it to JLR as well as my Disco was a company car during warranty period. Once I bought it from my employer the communication link became void.
Any commlinks are switched off. But I never was informed on details. - I was told only -on engine data, and anything that is on OSD but also relative position of vehicle in case of roadside breakdown assistance in case of (That was part of the mobility service my employer demanded)
As of now - I am quite happy there is no data link anymore. - removed all SIM from vehicle. It feels a bit strange that the vehicle is communicating data / perhaps driving profiles etc. but not exactly how often - when, what exactly.

Really! You managed to add something after your contract was signed and within the 60. days cut off date. If you confirm I’ll be on the phone straight away. 👍

Contract was issued but not signed.
Thanks for that. I’ve just been onto my account and did the live chat with Ineos rep. And they are actioning my changes and going to send pdf copy for me to confirm. They couldn’t have been more helpful. Very impressed. 😎

It would be rather funny if all the wiring is actually there and just the overhead panel is missing.

I'm reminded of the number of bits in various Landrovers, from heated seats, adaptive cruise control, fuel burning heaters, where all the wiring is part of standard looms and the plugs are just waiting from the hardware to be plugged in.
Funny indeed !

I'm sure checking will be on the list for some new owners. I wouldn't expect it "all" to be there but think it's in the realm of possibility that the overhead panel could be retro fitted for some switch use, though not exactly the same as oem. Yes, even the need to run new wiring.

I doubt the oem set up is irreplaceable, (once it's damaged, sorry can't be replaced). But time will tell.

There is a material cost for different looms etc but also a, "anything different cost". As the mfr (assembler) gathers data on what configurations sell they'll make ongoing cost-benefit adjustments for what is included in builds. At this point so early in production who knows what "extras" will be there.

Some good news, Ineos central accepted my three variations and they’re locked now. Agent deferred to IA central who took 4 days to accept.

Of interest, my build date is now Feb (the three additions apparently didn’t impact the build date)

That is good news Off.Grid

Makes your wend a bit more relaxing having had the changes confirmed. Would imagine it would've bugged a bit if not.

Does anybody know whether they have a PTO as a demo vehicle?

"The first INEOS Grenadier
The Grenadier is now available for viewing!

Recently we received our early Christmas present, because the first INEOS Grenadier has arrived. From now on you can visit the new, uncompromising off-road vehicle in our showroom south of Graz. Our first exhibition vehicle is an INEOS Grenadier Station Wagon PKW M1 in the Trialmaster version. This means that the Grenadier already has BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, differential locks on the front and rear axles, an intake snorkel, a rear ladder and much more as standard. Propulsion is provided by the 3.0 L BMW twin-turbo inline six-cylinder diesel engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission from ZF."

Recently found out that one of my neighbours is the Group Director for Ineos. Best I make the effort of getting to know him.

This is the time that you wished you had already been his best mate, go and do some carol singing outside his front door wearing a Grenadier tee shirt. That should start the conversation off nicely.

Why not talk to him in the morning when he wants to go to the office? Tell him: "Actually, I would ask you now if you want to go with me. Unfortunately, I don't have my Grenadier yet.
If you support me in getting it quickly, you can read the newspaper while I drive".

I believe his one will be issued in January. Hopefully bug free as that will bode well for the rest of us.

Yea @Cheshire cat - Do the caroling maneuver from Love Actually and on your cue cards have pictures of the Grenadier.
