Dumb question: why is it a Trialmaster and not a Trailmaster?

If you look at some of the current TV dramas the male co star wears a Trialmaster vis Vera and Annika
is Vera or Annika the male co star?

I'd never seen an episode of Annika till last week, first thing I noticed was the jacket. Joe in Vera the wearer.

The only Annika I can remember was Annika Long Leg Rice in a jumpsuit leaping on and off a chopper back in the 80's ch4 show. Fond memories......

I'm beginning to think he doesn't have a proper office, the number of times I see him lounging around a Grenadier... 😜

I have to be careful of my words here @Jean Mercier. I thought from recollection that the trading position of Belstaff was not as good as it might be. And IMHO it is a gimmick to refresh the Belstaff brand. Obviously the base manufacture cost of a jacket would not have much impact on the price of the vehicle. If you look on the internet you can get a Fieldmaster jacket at considerable less than the manufacturers list price.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe (keen motorcyclist as well as off roader and all time cool very rich dude) rescued Belstaff from certain death and brought them back into solvency. Belstaff was synonymous with the British motorcycle scene for many decades and I assume Sir Jim felt it necessary to support such an iconic (to us Brits) brand.
Belstaff bike jackets were heavy, stank of paraffin wax and left the wearer with a ring of wax stain around the neck. Once the classic British rain got through the stitching (in less than half an hour) the jacket became waterlogged and thoroughly unpleasant to wear. Goretex thankfully put an end to the torture.
Most bikers of my generation had a Belstaff at some point, so I like the fact that Sir Jim has personalised this little bit of history by linking it to the Grenadier.
I just hope Ineos don’t offer it with waxed cotton seats, smell and all!

He has in fact generated thousands of "sales" worldwide (1700 pa in the UK alone). IA are presumably "transfering" lots of £££ into the Belstaff coffers. It is hoped that this injection of sales will attract a new fashion clientele for Belstaff. I wish them good luck.
NB I'm just waiting to see Jean wearing his, reluctantly no doubt judging by his preference comments.

I believe it comes from their Belstaff "motorcycle trials" jacket so its a legacy thing rather than a Grenadier relevant theme. But yes, we all call it trail in error!
yes Jim also owns Belstaff

It still amazes me that a car which was built deliberately to have less CPU's than most is held up with software problems.
To be fair, pretty sure it is not only software problems. But a CPU is hardware so it doesn’t necessarily make the software bit easier, in fact it’s possible it makes it harder because the software may need to work harder with less Control units.

If you look at the accounts of Ineos Automotive, there's quite a bit of inter-company trading going on. Always best to keep it in the family - ask the new Commercial Director.

One of Ineos' patents linked to the vehicle was a design to allow/route various commands/requirements in a more efficient/timely manner.

Belstaff jackets are known worldwide by the biking fraternity and now known worldwide for their fashion range just behind Barbour in wax cotton wear. The exception to world wide is probably the USA where protective rain proof wax cotton I don't think really caught on
Very true. There are always outliers for any gear, and USA waxed-cotton users probably still wax their bicycle chains(!). In the early 80's I bought a Goretex jacket and never looked back...

I went over to Paramo in the 90s for walking and cycling, better in my opinion than Gore-Tex. Wax cotton needs base clothing as it is cold in winter for working outdoors but was rugged around the farm environment. Now it seems (in the UK) wax cotton is a fashion statement.

I thought Steve McQueen was into waxed motorcycle jackets in a big way, albeit from a rival manufacturer?

I still have an excellent pair of Paramo overtrousers ~ the best I've ever had for hill walking. Just never got around to getting the matching jacket.

I've never owned actual rain pants. Instead I always wear Poncho if the rain is that heavy. It provides excellent coverage, covers your gear as well, you can sit/squat and form a person tent, and you can actually build a shelter if needed.

They seem more of a thing in the US. Personally, having lived with a military poncho for longer than I really cared for, I have an active dislike of them.

Does anybody know why is it named Trialmaster Edition rather than a Trailmaster Edition? When a trial is normally a court process and a trail is something you explore.

Trailmaster makes more sense when the other model is a Fieldmaster Edition

Perhaps all that litigation by Land Rover influenced the name?
The names are based upon Belstaff Jackets - Sir Jim Owns a big share in Belstaff, hence the tie in.

Sir Jim owns ALL of Belstaff, it is 100% Ineos holding
