I just tried the website listed for the diesel oil:

Then the Owner's Manual, Page 179 states "Petronas Syntium 0W30 DG":

I can't seem to find a Petronas Syntium oil with that suffix (or indeed a prefix) DG. Instead there's:

CP ~ Citroën and Peugeot
DM ~ Mercedes-Benz and Renault
E ~ Citroën and Peugeot
FJ ~ Ford and Jaguar
LL ~ BMW (LL-04), VW and Porsche

The latter LL seems partly consistent with the label reference to BMW LL-12FE:

The DG would be “Diesel Grenadier” wouldn’t it?

but there is no product data sheet. Maybe it is too new. I don't know what - DG - stand for.

DG Possibly a code to indicate suitability for both diesel and gasoline engines...

No ~ it's a different oil for petrol models.

I contacted the Petronas helpline (Technical Support UK) and got the following reply:

"Thanks for sharing the photo [under bonnet label] . As far as I know we don't have a BMW LL-12 FE approved oil.

We have the petrol variant Syntium 7000 LL 0W-20 (LL-17FE).

Here is the official definition of BMW LL-12 FE,

"
EOP BMW LL12FE BMW Longlife 12 FE (Petrol) BMW Longlife 12 FE (Petrol)

Engine Oils
BMW & Mini Longlife12FE is an SAE 5W-20, or xW-30 viscosity fuel efficient, mid-SAPS, service fill crankcase, Grp IV oil for petrol and light duty diesel engines from circa 2013 onwards. Based on ACEA C2-16, plus BMW engine durability, wear & sludge tests, with SASH of <0.8% wt, TBN of 6.0 mgKOH/g, NOAK 13% max, and 2.9 min HTHS viscosity, cP. Not for diesel engines with 2, or 3 TC's. Can be used in gasoline engines, but only within the EC, Norway, Switzerland & Liechtenstein. Only allowed for S55, or S63, M engines within the EC/other countries as above. Updated in 2018"

All I can say is be careful.

The low viscosity oils are primarily good for better fuel economy and lower emissions because these viscosities have lower frictional resistance. That's good for the approvals.

But they are not good for an engine that is under stress.

Great thread. As we start to receive our vehicles, this is exactly the type of information and discussion I hope to see. I love all the banter but serious threads where I don’t have to wade through frivolous nonsense is what I need and expect. Don’t get me wrong I love the joke thread and the dog thread especially but I want serious useful stuff separate from all that stuff.
Thanks again all for a great forum. As I’ve mentioned before on a different thread this is a wealth of information and the Chinese have found it very useful to bring their version of the Grenadier to market before Ineos. 😂. That bit is for the joke thread.

I think once the vehicles get out there then the nature of the forum will become more focused. It has lasted well (survived) during the last 12 months without an actual vehicle, testimony to you all on your commitment - well done one and all 👍

I must admit, I've only had to buy Petronas products in Malaysia and that was in an emergency, it was always BP in Singapore if we could when in that part of the world. The one thing I did pick up is that not all grades are in all countries for any given brand and they're sometimes called totally different names depending on which side of a border you're on.

So the equivalency tables really come in handy if you're traveling extensively, same with bearings, but thats for another thread.

I actually use Petronas oil. Our Fiat 124 Spider runs on Petronas Selena.
I just wonder if it is an existing oil that has been " rebranded " to make it unique to the Grenadier. Could explain some of the Petronas team not having up to date information yet. I would expect that the dealers with be getting stock for after market sales. In the shorter term those picking up their vehicles could always ask for a litre or two as top up, if needed, till more info becomes available

Would it make sense to brand an oil just for the Grenadier? I really don’t think so.
