Hey Noddy. Sounds like you and I have similar thoughts. I was in the process of sourcing a BMW 3.0d M57 as a doner to replace the TD5 in my Defender when I placed the reservation on the Grenadier as the Defender is my daily drive and wanted a better drive train.
Since then I’ve put the conversion on hold and am tidying up the Defender in original condition.
The IG and Defender are chalk and cheese (or I hope so). My missus refuses to do the long trips in defender now. No matter how much you tickle the LR it won’t match the IG for long distance cruising comfort. Im heading for retirement and want something comfortable to do serious miles in - the LR doesn’t fit the bill IMHO.
