I've had a cracking noise coming from the rear door for a few weeks now. This weekend I started troubleshooting and removed all the attachments.
Yesterday I had help with troubleshooting.

While driving it continues to crack, my help then pressed against the door with his legs and the cracking stopped.

Has anyone experienced this before and does anyone have a solution?

Heard "noises" from the rear door area and discovered that the plate which anchors the gas strut to the cargo floor was loose! Tightening the plate fasteners cured the noise. Check also the door latches and whether they need to be adjusted to provide more compression on the door seals when closed....

Thank you very much @DenisM , I looked for it, unfortunately it wasn't. It still makes a noise.

@IGL This is not so easy to identify. The pressure was exerted on the separating point of both doors. Then it was quieter during the ride.

Do you have any other ideas?

Update: The error has been fixed. See text.

We went for a test drive and pressed the doors while driving, the noise was gone while the pressure was being exerted on the door.

My Ineos is currently being serviced and the problem has been fixed by readjusting the door. I got a new rear door seal not too long ago. The new seal meant that the door only ever latched in the first position of the lock but not in the second fully closed position. I did not notice this immediately after replacing the seal because the new seal had not yet settled. In the meantime, the new seal had settled and the door was always in the first position of the lock and had play, the door was virtually never closed properly. Now the lock catches have been readjusted and the door closes completely again, the cracking while driving has been eliminated.

Update February 2025: Problem has reappeared, Ineos has not found a solution for months

The noises reappeared at the end of the year and I went to my trusted workshop to carry out intensive troubleshooting. The noise has gotten worse and worse. It occurs during normal driving with the slightest twisting of the bodywork. In fact, it comes from the large rear door and can also be reconstructed by exerting pressure when stationary. The current assumption is that it is due to defective welding points on the rear door. I and my garage have already been in discussions with Ineos for nearly 3 months to finally obtain approval for a door replacement. Ineos is currently refusing to comply and is demanding that my agent carry out extensive investigations in their workshop. The customer is suffering from the problem and the lengthy processes at Ineos. It is not yet possible to estimate how long it will take until a door can be delivered. It is frightening that no stock is available and it is not clear when it will finally be available again. I am curious to see when this problem will finally be solved.
Keep your fingers crossed.

Best regards,

Update in April 2025: Ineos does not supply spare parts, cracking gets worse with rising temperatures

You can hear the cracking in the following video. It's very unpleasant and certainly can't be dismissed as normal. Of our three Grenadiers in the family, only I have the problem with the cracking. The cracking occurs particularly during load changes, e.g. when accelerating and braking. But also when the body twists during normal driving. The door is made of aluminum and the welding rivets are made of steel, we know that this pairing does not get along very well.

There is currently no update on when the new door will be available. I have already been told several times that Ineos is having massive problems supplying replacement parts. This doesn't make me particularly happy and something definitely needs to change here.

Is it a petrol or diesel ⛽️? Internal or external, can it possibly be from the exhaust, I'm thinking a defect in the silencer echoing in the back

It is a faulty spot weld, we discovered this in the workshop (@Eric It is a diesel).
The cracking can be reproduced by applying pressure to the locks on the large rear door from above and below. It is also sufficient to simply press with your hands. Then you can feel a movement of the sheet metal in the middle of the door, at the welding rivets above the door opener. Ineos has also accepted this diagnosis from my workshop and will pay for the repair, but unfortunately no progress is being made. Because the internal Ineos processes are so lengthy and above all because Ineos has no parts available. The supply of spare parts from Ineos lags at every turn.
