Compass/Altimeter lighting level

I’m slowly finding my way around my new grenadier and enjoying it very much so far. One thing that I’ve not worked out yet though is how to adjust the lighting level on the compass/altimeter. At present it’s ok to read in the dark but very difficult to see in daylight and the instrument and screen lighting adjustments don’t seem to do anything to the compass. Can anyone enlighten me (pardon the pun!)

There is some history (but no fix) about this issue on this forum. At least the duplicate altimeter reading (but not compass heading) can be continuously displayed at the top of the main display screen.

About all I usually see (in daylight) are the big letters such as N, E, S, and W.
Digital readout is only visible at night (glad this isn’t an aircraft).

Yep, the lighting is backwards, if headlights are on, backlight for the compass is bright. If headlights are off, backlight is dim. No menu option to change it that I have found.

Really dumb qc oversight. It’s also a rather useless feature… wish mine off the lot unit didn’t come with it

While I’ve never in my life used a compass or altimeter while driving, other than to keep a log, which I never again looked at, I think it’s neat.

Yep, the lighting is backwards, if headlights are on, backlight for the compass is bright. If headlights are off, backlight is dim. No menu option to change it that I have found.

In addition, the LCD readout is polarised and details disappear when I wear polarised sunglasses! Not happy...

Well, the theme is cockpit, and you don’t use polarized anything in a cockpit.

While I’ve never in my life used a compass or altimeter while driving, other than to keep a log, which I never again looked at, I think it’s neat.

Not so much the altimeter, but I do frequently cross-check the compass against the map when I am off-roading.

I simply put on the lights when I would like to look at the altimeter/compass.

Do I use it much...probably not. I like it a ton for aesthetics but how it is ACTUALLY useful is debatable.

I tested the compass when we went on a run to see the A3 comet. It was "close" but not that accurate....altitude was SPOT ON with 40' from what I know.

I do not know where the "compass" gets its reading from though. Is it a setting we can change?

Mag/Var changes depending on location....does the Grenny take that into consideration for that? Not certain.

And I do check the compass as a cross check for things but do not rely on it.

I always carry spare glasses in the vehicle.
Not that I was in the boy scouts or anything. Just prepared for anything!
