Anything with 4 wheel drive with a little bit of ground clearance would work for me, most of my driving is on UK motorway, i use a little Abarth for local trips to protect the dpf's on diesel. I do a small amount of green lanes in England and Wales but could live without it. I had a Freelander 2 that was 10 yrs old and no longer reliable (had from 6months old), and that was perfect. Before the Grenadier was thought of my plan was to get the UK version of Toyota Landcruiser, which seems to be a Prado elsewhere. Then I had the choice of the Grenadier.
My decisions are something that will last and I can operate without touching screens, which i hate. Needed to be something that would last a lifetime as the UK is stopping the sale of fuel powered vehicles soon???. Also like something that feels solid. I can use my blue badge holder to cover the screen on dark roads and the cabin isn't a distraction with everything dimmed to 0%. I can cope with the digital speed but not the fake speedometer in a screen. I would prefer a proper speedometer and the Landcruiser did have that going for it (now previous version). Both had a small screen which works for the sat nav.
Reliability and long life ruled out Landrover, Subaru were petrol only, if i was retired I may have gone that route, but all new ones have massive screens wich is a big no.
So Grenadier in my head worked, and I love it. I have no issues with the steering or the rhd footwell and find it very comfortable on long journeys. Being a new vehicle i expected a couple of issues at first and now they are all sorted. Had issues at first with the Freelander and one of my wife's expensive (at the time) vehicles, until they were over a year old.
Bit of a long one, but the assumption you need a Grenadier for what it can do otherwise something else would be better doesn't work for me. I don't ultimately need it but it works for me.

In the UK there are some fantastic lease deals on the Touareg 286 Black Edition, tempted very tempted. However, it isn't a Grenadier just another one of the VAG brothers of Cayenne, Touareg, Audi Q7 and Bentley.

My previous motor before I purchased the Grenadier was a MY23 Tuareg 286 Black Edition. Fantastic car and an effortless mile eater - arriving fresh after a 400+ mile trip is something I miss, as is an average 35mpg! It did have its foibles though: The infotainment system was buggy as hell and the local car wash kept pulling bits of plastic trim off the front grill light surrounds. My lasting impression is that it was extremely well engineered but incorporated acres of flimsy plastic trim, just like any modern car as it keeps the weight down.

I hope you get happy with your Audi....as their engines are not anymore what they used to be. Many problems occur around 100,000 km with these (I don't want to call them such, but I have to) camshafts with the cams shrunken onto a piece of steel tube (yes, not one piece gray cast iron)....only a plastic camshaft is worse....they also tend to leak oil due to the plastc oil pan, not withstanding all these heat changes.

There is really no car on the market today I would by for my heart....none.
