Well, I’ve got an engine light, probably due to gas overfill. Is there a consensus on the best OBD reader for the IG?

There is a struggle to even find an OBD2 reader that works well with the IG.

If you take your Grenadier to a dealer with the light on - they will give you a software update that fixes it.

If you clear the code, they will not.

OBD Link CX/MX+
Works with your phone, I’ve been using it with my BMW’s and my Ineos, clears all the codes, reads most.

Always up to date
Thanks. To your knowledge is there anything the the CX version can do with respect to the Grenadier that the more expensive MX+ can't?

Cheers
Steve

In answer to my own question I did a bit of googling and it seems the MX + supports enhanced diagnostics for Ford, GM and a number of other manufacturers in addition to the std ISO protocols. It can also pair with a windows PC without the use of a BLE adaptor. Usefully for Australians it appears to have enhanced diagnostics support for Holden.

Absolutely untrue and easy to replicate.
Fill your truck before going to the dealer it will turn on the light. Next the system logs errors, and the dealer can see how many instances of the error have occurred. The dealer will update your vehicle plain and simple no “MIL” turned on required

The MX Just has expanded features for other vehicles. Given I work on a lot of cars it’s nice to have the option. It also helps future proof you. Who knows what the Grenadier requires. So $50 now or more later. But than again nothing in life is guaranteed so who knows.

The old one I have laying around seems to work just fine. It cleared my overfill CEL last week.

False.

Ineos North America policy is that they will only apply the software fix if the customers vehicle is showing the CEL for the fuel issue.

Very strange because they updated mine no questions asked. Again the error log is clear.
I was at overland expo east and Ineos did a update of my vehicle in the field (it was mistakenly coded for the wrong region - no ADAS functionality ) and they would not give me the gas fill fix because of the policy.

You had them code in ADAS? Why?

Despite the annoyance of the speed reminder, I prefer the full gamut of safety functionality that I paid for. Specifically, AEB is a worthwhile technology and in my 99% use case, it can be of use.

Your needs may vary, but in what is often the #1 ranked worst traffic in the USA, I'll take all the help I can get.

It obviously can be turned off, but no dealer is going to do so because of liability.
This was a byproduct of the trailer wiring harness software update earlier in the year. To my understanding, the region code was incorrectly set to ROW (idk specifically, not North America it seems) and some combination where there was no ADAS functionality. The computer basically ignored the camera. I alerted my dealer, but opted to wait for the rumored August update, which never came.

I am troubleshooting another issue (tell tale display not working on startup) and it was thought the region coding may impact that functionality. It has not alleviated the issue.
