Anyone know how to remove the transfer knob?

I’m thinking about swapping out the relatively cheap black plastic transfer knob. Does anyone know if this is possible? Can it be removed independently from the boot collar?

I’d like to install something like this, custom made with the shift pattern included:

There you go..

Thanks for the link…I still can’t figure out if I can just unscrew the knob.

This is where that factory service manual would be really helpful.

It appears to comes apart along the center axis. What then I have no idea. I do not want to be the first to break mine off without a replacement on hand.

The Arcane works products are offered with a more upscale shift knob.

^ I've never understood people wanting to change touch points in a vehicle cabin with anything metal. Not going to be a fun time on a hot summer day...

That knob has been a thing since people reproduced the "balsawood" shifter from the legendary Porsche 917.

Ok I had to know... The top of the plastic ball pops off and this is what's underneath I'm not going any farther until one of you guys comes up with an elegant solution. FWIW I pried the top of the ball off with my fingers.

Looking at the photo It appears that those 3 tabs that hold this plastic piece down are the tabs that the weighted gearshift lever on Amazon lock in to so it's not as simple as unthreading it or tapping something back in place.

Somebody had the idea to wrap it with whale foreskin. I'd suggest soak the skin, gently massage it over the knob and secure below with a ziptie, sailor's linen or even a cock ring. Whatever they are used for. I'll see if Amazon have them.

I never watch Amazon videos. Doh, stupid easy. I do not care for that giant block of aluminum but it isnt complicated. The aftermarket will catch up in time.
I hope so. The shifter is way worse than the transfer case knob aesthetically though imo.

The supra knob swap is ok but pricey for something so mid looking ($180ish from official parts sites).
