Yes that’s why we live in temperate Cottonwood! Haha
A few years ago I was in meetings in San Francisco. It was early February and my wife was absolutely starting to LOSE it in Wisconsin, so I said “hey babe, meet me in Tucson - we’ll do a long weekend at the Ritz.” Half way there my flight from SFO gets turned around because of snow on the ground in Phoenix and Tucson, and of course they have no equipment to clear the runways. Finally made it to Phoenix and had to drive to meet up with her in Tucson, and passed a bunch of sad, muddy little snowmen that the Arizona kids had made earlier that day. Was probably the greatest day of their lives.

My wife and I relocated to Wisc. Rapids in 1988 for a one year assignment and ended up staying there until 2022.
She slipped on the ice in our driveway in 2018 and had a severe wrist break that took surgery and nine months to recover from. After that she never trusted winter there again. We drove all around out west to decide where to retire to with one daughter in Seattle and one in Phoenix. The Southwest won out because of the sunshine as we would have 90 days without it in the Wisc. winters.
But we chose to move up the mountains to have milder summers.
Never been happier.

All my grandparents lived in Rapids! I went there so much as a kid. I can still remember the smell of that manufacturing plant as you drive into the town. I think it was a paper plant…? And wasn’t the family who owned it the Moody(s)? I think they had a little island on the river or something. I was fascinated by that family when I was a kid bc they seemed like a family people talked about but no one ever saw. It was a childhood vibe where I felt they should have lived up on a hill in a gothic mansion, like feudal lords lol!

Yes all true. Much to discuss. But in general:

The plant was the paper mill and the smell was bad. But they called it the smell of money.
The Mead Family owned Consolidated Paper Inc. who owned the Mill and the town really. They lived on the island in a mansion. The last member of it to have been involved with the company died a couple of years ago.
The mill closed in 2020 and is being demoed now. The town went from one of the richest per capita to the poorest as the economy continues to die with the mill closures. It’s sad but a true story of a one horse or income town.
I worked for the company for 11 years and in 2000 it was sold off to a foreign company and the downsizing started.

However, on another note: a Golf Course Developer started building a world class golf course south of Rapids which has made it a destination golf area with private jets flying in daily and real estate prices increasing. We sold our home there and it is an air bnb now.

That’s right it was the Mead family! That’s sad the plant to an end. What a loss economically!

I always wondered what the mansion on the island was like bc I love historical architecture and I think that house was older. And as I recall, it was totally obscured by the pines around it, which gave it even more mystique.

Getting back to the side storage bins, I hope they eventually make a left one for the Trialmaster model with the inverter like mine. Even if it’s not as deep, the space utilization for these areas is greatly appreciated for me who went from a larger Series 200 Land Cruiser to the Grenadier. I love it but need to be strategic in organization of storage.

I hadn't gotten around to posting that, but we've got it in the states and it's my go-to vodka. 🍸🤤
Zubrowka, world famous vodka. Banned in the US for many years, now allowed.

My wife's family is Polish. I actually had them call bison gear to check that they where legit before I bought from them the first time. It was so early in the forum that I wasn't sure. They gave the thumbs up and off the deep end I went...
