Hello Team ,

Gren odo reads 5077 so time for a second oil change and an air filter chnage .

Oem air filter for the Gren is this one :

To take the air filter out you will need a PZ3 screwdriver:

The airbox screws can be undone from around the perimeter . They are captive so no need for them to come all the way out .

You can easily fish the filter out by just lifting the upper part of the airbox . No need to take anything else out .

Replacing the filter is the reverse .

We have various agricultural and garden machines with a similar set up saves having to replace the whole filter just clean or exchange the pre filter.

Thanks for sharing those pics. For info, that Mahle part number LX3985/1 checks out. It also cross-references to a few BMW part numbers.
The /1 is significant. Mahle make this filter in several heights. /1 is 63mm.

Mahle Aftermarket

Is that white element some kind of a pre-filter? I have never seen that before on any of my cars.
Yes, pre-filter for larger particles, some 200 series Landcruiser air filter replacements have this.

Toyota, Mercedes, and countless others do it as well....

I have to ask... Why 2 oil changes and an air filter change by 5,000 miles???

All my diesels get an oil change ever 3k miles .
Brand new engines get oil change after break in ( usually at 500 miles) but i had trouble getting the oil and filter form INEOS so the first oil change got pushed back at 1800miles . So did the second one at 5k to be able to keep track with whole numbers.
Air filter gets done at every second oil change .

In my eyes is very cheap insurace to make sure the engine lasts as long as possible . Oil change all in is aproximately 80 pounds not crazy in my opinion .

will post pictures of the insdie of the engine at 200k miles when i will do the bearings :) hahahah will be intersting to see how it looks .

Thanks for post. Very useful.
Is that white fluffy pre-filter also included with the newly ordered air filter or do we need to reuse it?

From K&N website.
I'd be cautious using K&N filters for anything other than on roading. In all the tests I've seen they have the least filtration capabilities. Flow...yes, filtration not so much. These may be different but is it worth the risk?

My white pre filter is at the bottom of the box with clips holding it in.
