Accident repair and sourcing parts

Collected my grenadier yesterday. Paintwork is great, panel gaps not perfect but good enough and I just wanted the thing away from that bodyshop to be honest.

Driving fine, heating working but here’s a thing.

I think I can hear the water pump which I never could before. Also, the AC is noisy. I thought at first it was the HVAC fan but it’s not. AC on, it whines. Turn the AC off the whine goes away and it gets stinky. I’m not quite sure if the smell is coolant or AC gas but something ain’t right.

Off to the service dealer today to discuss it.

Leave any car sat around for too long is never a good thing. Turned the AC on on my little Abarth 595 yesterday and it had a funny smell.

Yeah but it only smells when I turn the AC off, weird eh?

It’s sat not being used for 3 months too and I’m going low voltage warning at idle. It’s charging on the move, will get it on my trickle charger which will hopefully sort that.

In view of the smell and the noise, I suspect that you have lost some fridgerant as the seals have dried out with sitting so long. I suspect it is going to need a recharge (they check for leaks during the recharge process)

Yep exactly what the grenadier tech said to me today.

Low voltage warning has been on, today I drove 25 miles or so with the car discharging at 10V. Got down to 80% charging status and at one point it was pulling 111A!! No lights on, no heated seats, all aux switches off. Stopped, started again and back charging at 14-15V. He reckons the batteries had gone completely flat whilst sat doing duck all for nearly 3 months at the bodyshop and they probably need replaced. Ineos are cracking down on battery warranty replacements but to me this is the fault of the bodyshop, they should have had it on a trickle charger.

I ruined 3 car batteries over COVID. Just doesn't do them any good sitting there doing nothing.

In further news, the parts bill there:

New wing
Plastic trim bits and bumper bits
Wheel arch liner
Some brackets
Lower part of the RAI body

No new rad
No new parking sensors
No new wheel or tyre

Doesn’t sound like very much eh?

£7500!!!!

Everything is so cheap nowadays 😱
Explains why cars get broken for parts. Repair anything and it's half the price for a small part and then you think everything else might go so we just buy new. It's the green way!
