Was wondering who did the install and what was the cost. I looked to see who does that local to me (Sarasota/Bradenton area) and it seems like only the jeep dealerships do it. Kinda seems like a no brainer but would love to hear your thoughts now that you have it. Thanks
Orange Blossom Auto Glass. Fantastic service.

It is getting worse now. Started near the top of the driver’s side with a chip. It is almost halfway across the screen now.

my commercial insurance will cover it, but I’m going try the internet fix and see if holds first. I’m curious to see if I’ll be in a shower of glass.

Here's the definitive way to handle a windshield crack. To start, you'll see some idiots on youtube talking about needing the right angle in the light or backing tape to se the crack. Don't be stupid. Just get a flashlight.

1) buy windshield repair kit.
2) take before pictures.
3) take a dremel glass bit and drill at the tip of the crack. this supposedly creates an area of stress relief and place for resin to enter at the tip of the crack.
4) tap with nail because someone on youtube told you so.
5) look at the hole and think to yourself "I need to stay off youtube"
6) apply resin and let sit till the air gets out.
7) put plastic strips ofer it and sit in sun to cure.
8) Scrape off excess and notice its only 10% better than it was, but now has a hole at the top.
9) try again because someone else on youtube told you so.
10) Scrape again.
11) take after picture, and realize its the same as the before picture, but with a dimple at the top of the crack

12) And lastly, call glass guy and ask when the fucking windshield is going to be in.

Just had mine replaced. Glass installer had to get it from Ineos. Luckily they had one available. My guess is it’s a good business to have these on hand as parts. The trim surrounding alone was over $300 according to the glass company. Fortunately I have glass coverage through insurance.

New windshield has cracked after only a couple of weeks. Pretty disappointing. Ink isn’t even wet on the check from the insurance claim if they have paid it. 😭

I feel for you man!!!
Just look at my earliest posts on the forum, I had similar issues with me previous vehicle 😞
It became worrisome every time a truck passed me on the other side of the road 😳🙄
Sharing is caring I hope because no one can actually help!
I seriously considered paying the $1200 (NZD) to have a protective film applied, and this would be my only suggestion.
But seriously I do feel for you! 😞

I had ExoShield installed last week at a local shop and am hopeful it will perform as advertised. You have to look really close to see it, so I’m happy with how it turned out.
I had the racing optics installed. So far it's decent.

The way the glass is sealed now, there is no edge trim to protect the glass edge. It's not just Ineos. When discussing it with a friend he looked at it commented out crappy that intersection was, then we walked over to his new pathfinder and, voila... same shit. lol. When I finally get a new one, in addition to the dubious plastic coating, I'm perusing trim catalogs to see what I can silicone in place to protect that edge. I don't think my stone would have been fatal if not for the excellent striking surface the edge presents.

My mickey mouse fix has stopped progression so far. I'm looking forward to the first morning I need a defroster though. That will be the test.

Just got the bill for a tiny screen chip in the hire car we just returned at Auckland airport. $2040.
The amount of trucks and roadworks in NZ greatly exceeds anything we've met in 20 (developed) countries!
I'd be getting that film for sure if I lived here.

We will just use our CC travel insurance cover.
The car rental places charge an arm and 2 kidneys.
TBH I don't know how we didn't sustain more damage in 2400km driving.
Maybe just skills 🙃 ...and the luck we enjoyed driving 1500km of Irish mostly back roads earlier this year.

So the rental company charged that amount for a chip and zero crack?
I bet they will not even fix it until it’s cracked!
Was it a late model rental company (major brand)?
Shocking 😮
And you are absolutely right about the amount of roadwork with shoddy material management leading to excessive loose stones everywhere!
Apart from that I hope you had a great time 😁👍🏼

The company is Ezi. And yes, it's likely they will wait for a few more chips before they replace it. I wonder if the insurance agent will request proof of fix. I doubt whether we'll ever be privy to that info.
Ah well. NZ was absolutely great again. 4th visit in 10 years.
Last day today and then straight back to Tassy.

What a wonderful place. It’ll be my third visit in six years when I go again next year. 😍
