What to do about Galvanic Corrosion of fasteners and dissimilar metals?
Get some Ultra Tef-Gel.
Do you live in or near a marine environment or where salt spray is present or where salt is applied to roads? If so you will likely deal with corrosion of fasteners including galling or just plain frozen nuts and bolts at sometime in the future.
You can eliminate that by using a product call Tef-Gel. It is basically a PTFE Teflon thick gel that you apply as both a lubricant and to prevent galvanic corrosion. Since the Grenadier is a combination of both aluminum and steel and bolt on mods may be made of dissimilar metals or the bolts, nuts and washers may be of dissimilar metals, just simply apply some Tef-Gel between the surfaces and to the treads to stop corrosion from even forming and to easily remove them in the future.
A little will go a long way. It cost about $40 for just 2oz., however that will last you practically forever.
There is nothing worse then going to remove something, only to find the bolt or screw is frozen on. No one likes to drill out a fastener or break one off.
It may change any torque settings since it is also a lubricant. For that reason, I would not recommend it for use on wheel studs. It is also very sticky, which is actually a good thing.
I would not recommend getting it on you and if you do a little mineral spirits will remove it. It comes with a small brush to apply it, however I have found using a tooth pick or thin wood shrimp skewer to be easier to use as you can just toss it away after using it.
I also found another use for it on my Grenadier. I was hearing some rattling at the rear doors when going over minor bumps. I simply applied a small amount to the catches and pointed guides for the doors and the rattling disappeared. I don’t yet have any plastics causing noises from rubbing together, however if I do, I think a thin coat would completely eliminate any noise.
