So far we have one....possibly two people who have had a small quantity of water pool on the roof, when vehicle is parked outside, in the rain.
Based on that we have started blaming the designers, Ineos senior management, car industry in general.....the inevitable "they" and every other entity...........other than the people who have parked the vehicle outside, in the rain, facing slightly downhill.
Maybe it is just a case of shit happens. Acknowledge it and try not to park in that position, in the rain for 300 consecutive days.
I had a soft top Suzuki Sierra (actually 4 of them and a Holden Drover version) and I noticed that the soft top would fill with water and sag badly, causing it to stretch.
I once drove home pissed (oops) and left the top off.
The car filled with about 200mm of water.
Luckily the door seals were shit and that was as high as it could get.
Suzuki put bungs in the floor so you could let the water out.

Actually I was doing a river crossing once and my Suzuki started to float away.
I opened the door and flooded it so it would sink back to the bottom.
Then I drove out.
Then I removed the bungs and dried it out.

I have to say, there seems to be a trend to FIND potential faults with the vehicle. My vehicle does have a fault (software) but it will be fixed.

I have been on the Forum and Facebook less recently, as reading these negative posts depresses me. I know the vehicle is not perfect, but it is impressive for what the designers envisaged, a rusty tufty go anywhere vehicle that can be hosed out.

My vehicle has a fault.
It is on a friggin boat out in the ocean.
It has wading mode but I thought I would at least be in the vehicle when it was employed.

Chin up old man!
As long as you specced the Trialmaster with no carpets or animal hide , a little moisture won't hurt you!
The Rugged Man plans for all eventualities.

And there is no need to hose the roof down...a clever auto installed feature. 🪜

Some of the world's greatest expeditioners were/are preppers.
I've prepped for my old age.

We prepare with candles
I reckon you've got a stash of these for when visitors turn up unprepared 😁

Water on a roof? 😲
Unacceptable!

If it’s not blown off driving
How did you come up with this idea?
I'm sure it will be.

If you accelerate hard first it all runs off the back onto the car behind you.
Not even that. The first road crossing where you have to brake solves the "problem". The rest dries off while driving.

If that vehicle is flat in both X,Y plane,
The one on the photo definitely isn't. In that case, the same puddle would appear on the other half as well. But there is nothing.

I'm really wondering if this was supposed to be a joke or really serious. Conceptually, a car (automobile) is something that moves frequently. And if there is a good drying method, it is the wind.

What a nonsense.

We prepare with candles and cards.
And wine, gin & scotch.
When Corona emptied the shelves in the supermarktes and the people started to prepare for the bad times, there appeared a headline in the newspapers:

"The Germans hoard toilet paper, the Spanish hoard wine."

I have been through many vehicle intro's. Part and parcel with building factories and working in automation.
Know this:
It is not what you read about, it is what you don't.
So far, and I've been reading about the Grenadier for years now,
there have been NO drive line malfunction complaints
So, we can have high optimism about motor trans and diff performance.
People are getting a good distance on their vehicles now, and I haven't seen anything about that.

Software and gauges, YES, but not chassis and driveline.

In my case, I ordered one for those bits, not the other stuff.

I always disregard the remarks of anyone that says, "It's not a Toyota or Defender."
Mostly because it isn't helpful, and secondarily, because I don't have any kind of personal attachment to either brand.
I live in the forest, where they spread salt on roads., it is very muddy, and lots of snow.
My final remark is that the sharing of ideas, processes, fixes, and faults, is EXACTLY part of the vision for Ineos.
WE as a community will work together going forward to solve and evolve all the little things as a group.
I find that very cool for this platform.
Others may not.
An example might be heat shield resonance. That willbe solved within the community, and I'm pretty sure Ineos will adopt an evolution to resolve it. Very cool to see bottom up evolution in a new platform.

I wonder if other will now test this to see! Having said that, maybe parking forward slightly will reduce water ingress through the tail gate!!!

OK, yes, the vehicle is not on a 100% flat surface but ever so slightly down on the left hand side. But it’s a NEARLY flat surface. And no, it’s not a joke. It’s a legitimate question about the potential problem of this over time.

Here is the issue 24hrs later…
IMG_1350.jpeg

A dirty hard water mark where the rain has evaporated. And yes, it’s a vehicle and therefore movable but unless I drive the car shortly after it stops raining, I need to clean the roof to prevent this. Otherwise this will happen week after week until the paint deteriorates.

I’ve had several original Defenders and they never had water traps like this.

I should clarify that I will indeed be wiping this area down frequently to prevent damage and I fully accept this as a design issue I have to live with. It is an awesome vehicle in just about every way but this is information for future improvement of the design and awareness for other first generation owners.
