I’m sure someone will have had a longer trip to report by the end of the weekend.. At 75mph, cruise control on, three up and full tank of diesel, the engine is doing c 2000rpm but my mix of driving yesterday delivered an average speed of 33mph for overall fuel consumption of 22mpg. A longer trip on faster A roads or motorway is what we want. I’d like to think that 25 to 30 mpg is possible..
All these fuel consumption figures are on a " tight" engine, and nothing meaningful can be achieved till the odometer is the other side of 1000 miles.

Upright drawers - maybe. Upright fridge - I have doubts they are anywhere as efficient or practical as a chest type unless you’re just going to use it for casual trips out to the countryside like Dave is.
I too have weighed up the prospect of upright to chest type, the chest type with a barrier around it takes up more room than an upright. Access is easier with upright and it's lighter, power consumption- not a lot of difference and with the management system I have it doesn't matter.

I didn't order a cigarette lighter (unfortunately), so there is no socket in the centre console. I couldn't find anything in the English instructions either.
It's standard in all models I thought, it's pretty well hidden, check with a torch.

There’s US mpg but also mpg (Imperial)!
Yes I knew that and wanted to set the calculator in this way . Obviously I failed at 100%.

In my opinion long drives on motorways at 120 km/h will raise the consumption.
The car is high, not aero-dynamic, therefore a lot of air friction.
My Suzuki Grand Vitara has the lowest consumption at about 80 km/h. I have reached "mean" consumption on about 600 km range of 7 l/100 km (80 mpg UK). While driving on Belgian motorways at 120 km/h or sometimes faster in Germany I reach "mean consumption on 600 km trips" of 9 l/100 km (71 mpg UK).

I guess the price of fuel in Europe drives the intense interest in fuel consumption over there.
I have always run with the thought "it is what it is". The less you load it , the less hills, the less heavy foot and the less braking = better consumption!

Not sure about that. My Jeep wrangler (equally boxy) used to get best mpg at around 65/70mph on French toll roads, hit 30mpg once!. Around town it would get 22ish

12 L/100 km sounds good to me. My LR110’s (300tdi and 2,2 TDCI) are slightly more efficient, but weigh about 800 less.
My LC200 will take no less than 14L/100km at 100km/h. I haven’t got a clou what happens with the rest of the fuel.

Yeah My main concern is how well you can pack it with say 2 weeks of cryovaced meals, precious fluids etc etc and what the internals might look like after a day of corrugated roads or smashed up tracks. Upright interior configurations (that I’ve seen anyway) don’t tend to cater for that well at all. In a chest they all just tend to bounce about without anything “falling” so generally good at the end of the day, and you can pack thing’s reasonably tight to minimize that. Anyway we will see what presents in the fullness of time.

I towed a 2.8 tonne hybrid caravan from Adelaide to Darwin last October with my V6 manual Amarok 3100km each way, I sat on 110kmh on the way to Darwin, and the average consumption on the way up was 17.2 litres per 100km, on the way back to Adelaide I sat on 100kmh and used 13.8 litres per 100km. I set the speed using a gps, and was surprised by the difference 10kmh made.

In my opinion 12 liter/ km isn’t a good value.
But 10,3 l/km would be ok. This is the value I got by converting 23 mpg in the metric system.
I used UK gallons not US gallons. Did you use US? For a brick shaped 4x4 weighing more than 2.5 tonnes I would say 12 in a vehicle not yet run in that’s pretty decent. I wouldn’t expect much better

Are you always driving downhill?

I get much less than that from my Smart. 😲

Normally for cars the optimal speed for saving fuel is between 60 and 80 km/h in the highest possible gear.
When I drove to the Ukraine boarder in a convoy with fire fighting trucks we had a high speed of 78 km/h.
My Volkswagen T5 (long version) with a 2.0 diesel engine and mighty 115 HP only took 5,6 litres/100 km. Normally it takes between 8 and 12.

I accidentally did.
But anyway I think it certainly can be driven close to 10 litres as long it’s not beaten on the Autobahn

I expect it to be more efficient than my TD5 although it weights 750 kg more and has twice the power.
But only if I drive it as I drive the Defender!
