I recommend watching the latest video from LR Time.

Christian presents a very thorough and accurate analysis of some Discovery engine problems and their causes.

I think it is interesting for everyone who drives a car of this class, as all these engines face the same challenges. For the technically minded, it's a real pleasure to watch. One of the best technical videos I've seen so far on youtube.

I hope the branded INEOS oil comes in a can that you need to open with a can opener, or at the very least this type.

0w20 is the same viscosity as current Land Rover spec by the way, for petrol / gas at least.

I hope ineos are more reasonbale . No way i am changing my oil every 30K . More like 5K and that is pushing it . Oil is cheap engines are not .
Thougts on internal ?

BMW says 10,000 miles or 12 months for other B58 vehicles. I’m not a high mileage guy at the moment, but a job change is possible in the not too distant future. Having said that, no way I’d wait 10k though; 3,000 miles has been the norm for decades so anything between 3-5k seems safe.

completely agree , especially on disels .

Oils and motors have changed (improved) a lot the last 20 years, and longer. Depends also how you use the car and in what circumstances.
If the Grenadier says 15000 km, I will follow their rule.

My actual car says oil change every 20000 km, and I dared to go to 23000. Motor runs still smoothly, and I am a quite dynamic driver and was doing some off-road too.

I have 2 cars with the B58 engine, 540ix touring & Z4 M40i.

I'm an absolute BMW fan, in my car career I've had over 15 BMWs with in-line six cylinders of all versions, some of which have driven up to 200,000 km. All inspections were made according to BMW specifications and there was never any damage to the engine or transmission.
( thanks god that the IG is „Powerd by BMW“)

I changed the oil on my baby-benz - W201 - every 60'000 Km and the motor was still like new at 400'000 Km ...

But Christians video made me rethink my habits. The W201 was a 72 HP car without any DPF, AdBlue, turbo or all that stuff. And performance per liter is clearly higher higher let alone torque which wasn't even a quarter of the torque the Grenadier has.

With the arrival of Euro 6 the times of patient engines are probably finally over.

Mine will get at minimum an annual oil change and I tend to do well under 10,000 kms per year usually more like 5-7000 so mine will be getting an oil change at maximum 12 months or 10,000kms if I do a harder trip, like a Simpson crossing or a Cape York trip I will probably do one before and after whatever the time and mileage.
