I just had the new XPEL TPU WINDSHIELD FILM installed on my Grenadier Windshield at
Eurocars Detailing in Phoenix. I couldn’t be happier with the install and it is supposed to prevent the windshield from ever chipping or cracking which I have been concerned about with off-roading here in Arizona.

However prior to getting the film installed back in the first week of having my truck I got a chip on I-17 towards Flagstaff!
Anyway, I would recommend Max at Eurocars Detailing for this work.
The installed cost was $630.
I will report my experience with it in the future.

How does a chip form? Did the rock puncture the film? Or film is still in tact ?

If punctured, I would be concerned about debris / dust / moisture working its way underneath the film

My dealer sent me a text offering this. I am thinking of adding this on my first service.

The chip in my windshield occurred three months prior to the film installation. It created a small chip/crack about an 1/8” diameter. I had it epoxy filled prior to the film installation. The film should not separate and have any thing build up behind it.

Awesome! I was happy with my windshield deflecting an ounce-sized piece of stucco falling off contractor's truck in San Diego, but then... Near Coral Pink Sand Dunes, an oncoming Chevy truck tossed two rocks into mine. Spent a happy hour in Hurricane, Utah, using two windshield repair kits.

We’ve had our Trailmaster two weeks now. Since we live in the land of perpetual construction, both roads and homes I decided windshield protection would be worth it.

I had the XPEL installed the day before yesterday, on the way home from getting it installed, I took a stone to the center of the windshield. It left a small divot in the film, but the glass is fine, and intact.

Well worth the $650, if it keeps me from replacing a $2800 windshield.

Why not get windshield coverage on your auto insurance? Sure it’s a hassle.. but it’s not a comparison of 650 vs 2800 right?

I’ve got windshield coverage, so correct, it’s mostly the hassle factor. Considering I saw one owner locally that posted they had three cracked windshields in under a year, it seemed like a worthwhile cost/benefit thing.

It also shows up as a claim on your insurance and some companies have a limit over x amount years.

You’re right. You should wait. I will report back my experience in say five years.
I said I was interested in the product durability not that I was interested in doing it. 5 years could be 5 months or 5 weeks depending on the conditions. But sure, report back. I'll be here.

I'm also interested in the long term durability and loss of clarity due to dust erosion and wiper blade scuffing. At US$650 it's not something you want to replace often.
I have one on my M8 its been there for about 3 years now has some dings but nothing near what a chip in the glass looks like. The longest I went with protection was an older one back when they looked a bit wavy 5 years before first replacement (which they covered under their own warranty). Since I have been using windshield protection I have not claimed for a replacement. To each their own for sure, if you live in a spot that rarely sees rocks then might not be worth it. Here in AZ its terrible, that is why the state requires coverage from insurances to offer.
