Would you trust it?

So on the verge of picking up a Grenadier.

Presently drive a 2017 GX460 and am very happy with it except the "soccer mom" vibe.

So the help I need is this:

I will be working remotely in Northern Ontario (CANADA) for the summer. Nearest Ineos dealer is six hours to the south and from its reviews I'd rate it as a generous 3 out of 10. IF I had any sort of issue with the Gren I'm outta luck because I wont have the time to bring it back down and from what I'm reading here and other places there is a very good chance there will be something needing addressed.

The Lexus I have 99.9% confidence in, the Gren well I just don't know.

Now the only reason I'm considering this right now is because of the "offers" in play. $3000 accessory credit, $5000 discount on MSRP, 2.9% financing and the new one $3475 credit for owning a GX! Canadian Pesos not USD. This is of course on in stock vehicles which the one I'm looking at is a May 2024 build. It is what I would order missing the "rough pack" which I get the desire for but honestly all my Land Rovers before never had locking diffs and tires can always be added later.

So, would you buy now, hope for the best or wait?

Nearly (very nearly) every issue found on stock Grenadiers are annoyances vs. catastrophes, which means they could wait 3 months to be addressed IF you are willing to live with them for that long. There are a handful of Grenadiers in Hawaii and Alaska (separately) and they are even further from a dealer. I'm fairly confident the family traveling the globe in one and traversing Tajikistan, or the Gregors traveling Central America in their Australian-spec diesel are >6hrs from a dealer as well.

The GX is a known constant... the 4.6 is strong and the 120 series chassis was produced for long enough to know it will keep on keeping on through basically anything. From there it's a personal question bout what you want and what you're willing to deal with if issues arise. Always remember that negative voices are far louder than positive ones, especially on the internet

I'm learning to trust mine, 38,000 miles on it now. I've had a few annoyances, but nothing that has stopped me going anywhere. Just messages on the OBC which needed the dealer to reset. Mechanically she has been sound.

Buy it and rent a different beater for the summer if you’re that concerned. Everyone’s experiences are their own but mine have been nothing but annoyances.

That is certainly the case here in OZ from what I can gather from the forum and the grape vine, with mine at nearly 45k klms I am waiting for a service and a oil weep to be fixed. Haven't had to use road side assist but it is there if need be and I am under the impression that is worldwide?

Yes. If you want one, this is a good time to buy.

But only if you can put some miles on it and get any issues taken care of before you drive to Ontario. There may be some small problems on delivery that you would want to get fixed (like low coolant, AC recharge, leaking safari windows).

You’re buying a Grenadier for all the wrong reasons.
You currently have an uber dependable, boring, serviceable vehicle and want to change because you can get a good finance deal.
If this is your criteria for choosing a Grenadier (without all the good stuff that makes it truly special) you’re going to be bitterly disappointed.

Agreed with Mike's thoughts above, but I'll add that if you're already questioning if it's a good idea on not, then part of you is already biased against owning one - so I'd say no.

Owning a Grenadier is not a really a sensible or realistic decision, it's ultimately one of passion or idealism, because (at least for me anyways) a.) it's unnecessary for the type of driving I mostly do, b.) I was 4.5 hours drive from a dealer (now 3.5 hours with a newly opened dealer), and c.) it's kind of a risky take on an unproven, burgeoning car brand. Although, Anand and others are absolutely correct in saying that only a few of the cases have resulted in breakdowns. That said, I've had to drive to the dealer 3 times since taking delivery on Dec. 20, 2023 ( weeping pinion seal(s) + software updates) - which has been no big deal for me since I drank the Grenadier Kool-Aid before owning one (I've been following the Grenadier since the first concept photos went public) - so, it doesn't bother me like someone that might have less emotion invested into it.

However, if you're like me (and I suspect a lot of folks on this forum also) - specifically those that own one - you're probably pretty passionate about owning a Grenadier for because you love the idea of driving an old-school 4x4 that is the spiritual successor to the classic LR Defender. I think it's a similar feeling to owning a BMW GS, and being part of that community of adventure riders.

I guess what I'm saying is that I would simply not buy it because it might be a good opportunity financially to own one, or you might be disappointed. Do it because you love the idea of the Grenadier. Best of luck in whatever decision you make.
