Saw this and stored a bookmark for potential use or ideas:

Maybe great for oversea‘s, in Germany ( EU?) this will not fit with our license plate dimensions

Like the ideas of flipping license plates.
In the end might go the simple route and fix the license plate just left or right off centre. Can’t see this would breach any regulation. We’ll see when car is finally here.

Should not be too difficult to convert the winch cover to a flipping one like shown above, only more discret.

Has anyone actually used Dzus fasteners?

Simple, elegant, and absolutely fit for purpose. Why do more?

Yes, with or without a retaining washer ~ your choice.

Just make sure you get the right length to get a snug but not over tight locking.

In fact, it is so easy to remove now that I am a bit concerned about theft! The front number plate, the plastic piece itself, and the winch!
Am wondering what I can do to make it difficult to remove when I am not driving off-road.
Perhaps somebody has an idea?

No idea yet. But I will secure the flap somehow for everyday use. Don’t think I need the winch on the highway or in the city. Otherwise it and the license plate is prone to be stolen by some kid that is just trying to open the lid, succeeds and throws the 2 things into the next garbage bin because it is of no use for him.

When I really should need it going offroad I may put it in the trunk.

Maybe we use a screw like Torx or similar, that is not so easy to remove. Who want will do, but for people who are passing and think nice to take, it will help.

Thanks, that could be a first protection indeed!
I was also thinking to put some kind of easily removable glue or silicone like stuff on top of the screws to hide them.
Put this on the bumper in relevant languages

Hiding the screws is a good idea. Perhaps it would take a somewhat more sophisticated solution. But the concept is good.

These 'Dzus' fasteners look more like an invitation to open them. But if you put a rod through the ring from one screw to the other, maybe you could attach a lock to the rod. Painted black, the rod and the latches would be less visible.

Just a thought, those that have a dash cam, wouldn't that cover the winch area? No thief is going to risk that it has no auto start function.

They don't care. Because they know it would help you nothing to have their face on camera.

So the original screws are too hard to open and Dzus fasteners too easy... 😂

What about fixing on some over-centre catches that can be padlocked?
No, the original screws are easy if you have a screwdriver, the Dzus are also easy to remove even if you have only one left hand
Nice idea by the way!
