Having been used to water readily available on the rear of several Land Rover Discoveries I was hard pressed not to do the same on the Grennie. Using a 22 litre Proquip plastic jerry can as the basis I set about making it fit. I utilised the 6 OEM ladder mounts and chose a partial welding and bolting arrangement to provide ease of assembly and disassembly if required.
The tap is located toward the car centre when the door is closed so that it is very accessible when open. It still provides access for quick hand rinse or whatever when the door is closed. It is a lever action tap, not a twist tap that comes with the jerry can. I have found the lever taps to be more easily used and reliable over time.
The rack also provides a quick mount for an LED camp light which can rotate through 360 degrees to provide light in any direction. I retained the ladder concept for build strength and it is there if needed.
Weights are: frame 10 kg, jerry can 1.5 kg and water 22 kg gives a total of 33.5 kg. This will be a dynamic load on the rear door so I will keep an eye on it, particularly on the corrugated roads in outback Australia.
