Good morning Folks,

Just approaching the time to book the 2nd service on my Grenadier, and it seems that everyone is shutting down.

Jardine's have shut Sevenoaks and Colchester,
Heritage have shut Gloucester,
Bowker Ribble Valley, have shut
The independent 4x4 dealer in Kidderminster has shut his franchise, and was telling me 12 others have as well.

It seems a right mess and hope there is a plan B in the pipeline.

Anyone have any news on this side of the ownership ??

really enjoy mind and grin everytime I get in it, and thats not the RHD foot rest either !!

Agree
Not looking good for dealers.
I just had a first service at Busseys, of Norfolk, seem to know what they are talking about.
Bonus is that they charged £532 with a courtesy car. compared to £750 Jardines wanted and that didn't include a courtesy car.

Are these closings a product of lack of business? Unlike North America, I believe the UK locations aren't dealers in the sense they buy the vehicles from Ineos and then sell them on. You guys purchased your trucks directly from IA, correct?

I think dealers in the UK are closing if they sell just only an individual marque that only make petrol or diesel vehicle. New petrol and diesel car sales will be banned in the UK in 2030. That's only 5 years of trading income. So after that their sole income will come just from servicing/warranty work.

Correct.
I mentioned it in another thread, the ruling on mis-sold finance in May will possibly hammer car dealers.
Nobody is going to want to be in that business in the next 6 months, operators or investors

The dealers in the UK effectively purchase the vehicles from IA. Buyers purchase the vehicles from the dealer, not from IA.

Agency models for dealers are very rare in the UK.

A lot can happen 5 years, and if you sell a car today, you make money today. No one is closing that is making money today, because they may not make money 5 years from now.

What about the new luxury car tax for new personal vehicles £5k plus (first year). This would put me off buying a new one.

I was told that I have to order direct with Ineos online and the car gets delivered to my nearest showroom

No chance of getting a new Gren before the April deadline when tax doubles, especially as it seems they havent yet restarted production. Or rather there's zero info online whether theyve restarted or not.

That along with the 2035 (just found out they've pushed it back) ban is going to drive the recession even harder so sales will surely plummet. I'm going to bite the bullet though as it's a car I plan to keep for a long time (even if I have to relocate it elsewhere: damn the UK's RHD!!!)

Has the system changed? I had to order mine direct from Ineos in 2023. I thought you still had to build on their website and order their direct. The dealer got a handling fee for PDI, prep and registering

That's what I did and still thought that was the process for new builds

The diesel & petrol ban has been pushed back to 2035 now due to the cost of living crisis & lack of electric charging infrastructure. This recession will last at least 10yrs so that'll likely be pushed back further. Although all nonsense to scare people & make our lives even harder!

Since when, that was the old Conservative policy. The new Labour government and in particular Ed Miliband the new Energy Minister brought it forward to 2030on day one of their election

I'm not 100% sure it's in place yet, but they are planning to do it. Sadly all the uncertainty makes everything worse.

I've Googled it and it still say 2035, so I stand corrected ( until they do it).

So from searching, it all seems up in the air with noone knowing what is going on.

"The government plans to reinstate the 2030 ban on pure ICE car sales, but is speaking with industry figures to ‘restore clarity’".

Even if they go for 2030 and it gets repeatedly pushed back, it will destroy the automotive industry

With regards to Heritage in Gloucester, I had an email from them saying that they will continue to service Grenadiers at their other Gloucester Branch (Honda) by David who was the IA trained tech at the Ineos Branch. So servicing is at least taken care of for those around Oxford/Gloucester which is good considering I am currently needing two services a year :ROFLMAO:
They do mention that they are currently unsure whether they will deal with warranty work...

Dammit this is hard to watch, guys. Brussels doesn’t even have its claws in you any longer - somehow, you have to reclaim your inner redneck (if you didn’t export all of it to Canada, the US and Australia).
