Trump tariff. Ineos Automotive is dead right?

If The UK does a deal with The US there might be a way forward. We are no longer in the EU remember.
However we have a government who hate Trump and would like us to re-join the EU.. so a deal is unlikely..
Yeah I am certain when trump said eu, he is thinking uk as well.. I mean who can keep track of that . Europe is that whole region of the world..

Ah, but they will have surplus so they can release it cheaper on the UK market.
They have a surplus right now. All our local distilleries appear to be laying off a few staff here and there. The rates of duty are criminal. The govt. get more £ from every bottle of malt than anyone else!

Sorry. Politics, whisky and Grenadiers dont’t mix. One time when, as the scientists call it, ‘cognitive fluidity’ is a bane.

As it appears to many of us from outside the US. Trump is now 'THE' US Government. There are no longer any checks & balances to stop him behaving how he feels. If he likes Whiskey and its associations with his two Scottish Golf Clubs, he will make an exception. Regardless of rules and regulations, his exceptions will stand.
All very sad really, or am I being too cynical?
Sadly cynics are all too often right. (No E in Whisky :devilish: We keep it pure and additive free ;) )

Plus once reality hits, and people realise the tariffs are hurting US citizens more than the countries that the tariffs are imposed on, then they will be dropped.
All due respect, but this take fundamentally misunderstands the situation in the US right now. The media, elected officials, and the literate half of the electorate all know that blanket tariffs hurt US citizens and economy at least as much it hurts the targeted countries and that pain is disproportionately felt by the poor and middle class.

That economic pain a feature, not a bug. It's a regressive tax on citizens/residents which will fund further tax cuts for the richest at the barest minimum.

From what I read these tariffs are under the guise of emergency measures so avoid Congress.

It would seem unlikely that any tariff on the EU could be considered emergency so would presumably take a while to pass.

But you'll be one of only 200, worldwide. The people at the golf club will respect you for your bespoke choices and deep pockets 🥹
Make sure to get your name on the puddle lamps.
That's the saddest part of all. They really won't know. It isn't like it suddenly morphed into a Maybach.

ah... yep.

If you're on the subject of my Commander in Chief, the only advise I can give other nations is to distance yourselves. I mean, do everything you can to isolate your countries to limit the impact of the economic implosion. The sole source of our power since the 70's was the wisdom to insinuate the Dollar as the worlds reserve currency and between the tariffs, the never ending sanctions, and now the lashing out at our most valued friends and partners, there's going to be a movement to 'something' else. It was a ponzi scheme that permitted us to print the gold consumer economies needed, and in return for that right, we policed the world as benevolently as we could with stability as the goal. It benefited all participants. The orange moron isn't able to bring himself to act beyond the myopic "ME FIRST, I'm the center of my world" emotional state of a 3rd grader, let alone understand such cooperation made the world go around. He's going to burn it down. It no longer benefits the world. There is no backstop here, for his actions.

American exceptionalism was the willful handing over of control, and the obedience to the system. During the debates to form the government, there were enough men that had difficulty with the concept of there not being a unitary executive power, that president was given too much discretion. Hence, we have a Pardon Power, and the tools for removal have a bar set way to high for practical use. The positions domestic roll is to execute the laws and decisions of the courts, but there is no effective mechanism to compel compliance outside of impeachment and conviction. As President Andrew Jackson (trumps only Presidential hero) was once incorrectly attributed with saying, "(Chief Justice) John Marshal has made his ruling, now let him enforce it". A minority of Congress can protect him, and a minority want to bring it all down in the name of White Christian Nationalism.

The current court has been hostile to any laws written by Congress that limited the Presidents ability to remove the heads of departments. They are Federalist Society Unity Executive acolytes. They have given him the power to be King, and he intends on grasping it with both hands. He is firing anyone that hints of loyalty to the country over him. The President is a grifter Real Estate man, and the Federal Reserve just refused to lower rates to maintain the stability of recovery (astounding job they did, btw). His position is supposed to be untouchable by politicians whims. Do not be shocked when the campaign to remove him begins, so fat f**k and Musk can access the money supply. They, not expericed indoctonated globalist bankers, will have influence over the money supply kept in the banks of world governments.

Do not be shocked when the campaign for a third term starts. Did Ghengis Khan walk away? Did Julius Ceasar walk away? Did Adolf or Stalin? Do mobsters that have committed crimes and made mortal enemies, like the Gotties or Gambinos just walk away in peace? .... I pray I'm in error, and the winds blow to make this post appear to be nothing more than sunday morning paranoid foolish rantings and rambelings, but when I look at history, I just dont see it ending well. It would a statistical outlier in history. Our only solid hope of recovery starts with is his advanced age, and a weak bench unable to corral the troops such as he has. Outside of that, I do not predict free and fair elections, and a peaceful handover of power in 4 years.

Have a chipper Sunday morning!!!

U.S. Tariff Policy: Overview

Presidential Discretionary Authority over Tariff Rates.

In dozens of statutes, Congress has authorized the President

to adjust tariff rates in response to specific trade-related

concerns related to U.S. foreign policy and national security

interests, or that require an administrative finding by a U.S.

agency. For example, Section 232 of the Trade Expansion

Act of 1962 empowers the President to adjust tariffs on

imports that threaten to impair U.S. national security.

Section 5(b) of the Trading with the Enemy Act and Section

203 of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act

empower the President in a time of war or emergency to

impose tariffs on imports. Section 201 of the Trade Act of

1974 empowers the President to raise tariff rates

temporarily when the U.S. International Trade Commission

(ITC) determines that a sudden import surge has caused or

threatened serious injury to a U.S. industry. Congress has

also empowered U.S. agencies to impose duties to offset

certain injurious trade practices

I think this thread has got very political 😱🥱💩
my guess is the spirit of ‘no politics’ is centered around certain hot topics. Trade policies like tariffs though are pretty cut and dry with hundreds of years of data on their effects, and do have a material effect on globalized trade (including consumer demand) which directly effects Ineos auto
