I think if you lifted the vehicle, you likely already found you might want a step. Even if you don't, perhaps you are married to someone 5'3" who is not entirely pleased with the climb. The factory rock sliders do not work as a step.

I would say the best choice is aftermarket rock sliders, and there are many choices. But if you have the factory sliders, then it seems like a waste. At least it did to me. What I really wanted was something the N-Fab bolt on steps. They fit with their sliders, of course, but the idea is simple. Most of the time these steps are attached. When you go offroad and worry about hitting, unbolt them.

I am not a good welder and knew it wasn't for me. However, I took mine to Longmont welding in Colorado. I'm sure fabricators all over can do this. They just need to fashion 1/4in plate to run between the two bars and drill a hole. I marked where I wanted them, took off the sliders, and brought them over to them. With the steps, I was in for less than $500. Again, aftermarket would probably be the better choice, but once I had the factory it seemed obvious. Placement for the rear isn't perfect, but it's good enough.
