I ordered, received and tested a magnetic mount for the Starlink mini from PCI Race Radios. I am very pleased with it. It proved to be well built and secure on my roof top. My only critic of the mount is where the mount places the power jack. I'm concerned that the power jack, which will be oriented upwards, might be more prone to water entering it. You have to assure that the DC power cable has a good seal when plugging it in.

Fully installed and running off the roof outlet (thank you @DVA Mechanics and Striker Fabrication).

I did employ a bit of plumbers tape to ensure a watertight DC plug.

The mount also requires a couple of washers or grommets to stand-off the platform.

There are 4 power points - let me know which (driver side front or rear, passenger front or rear) you’re going to mount closest to. If you lift the cover on the power point, you will see the DTP port. First, remove the dummy DTP connector from the jack. Then you can put the DC (round) connector into your Mini and the DTP connector on the cable into the DTP port). Once you’ve done this, you can power it on via the overhead switch inside your vehicle. I will tell you which switch when you tell me which power point you’re using. Email dvamechanics@gmail.com with any questions.

There’s no best place for the mount - just facing directly up to the sky. Everyone has a different roof setup, so whatever works for your build.

Here is my home brew Starlink Mini solution. I installed a 1" ball mount on the grab handle and a 1" ball attached to a 80/20 plate that I had floating around. The plate is bolted to the Starlink mount. This mount allows for optimizing the Starlink positioning while stationary and optimizing the aerodynamics while driving. I made up the wiring harness from a cheap Amazon watertight starlink cable, some 16 gauge wire and a DT connector.

I don't have the extended electrical option so I pulled power from INT2 and ran 16 gauge through the doorsills, then under the rear seat and through an existing rubber plug to the underside of the car. From there I zip tied it along the bottom of the floor and up behind the bumper. It runs to the roof behind the painted plastic rear trim next to the rear door hinges. At the top it turns behind the black plastic trim and out the into the rain gutter. The wire is terminated with another DT connector and ziptied behind the grab handle. When not in use a plug keeps it watertight. This wire routing requires minimal trim removal and most importantly doesn't create a point of water entry on the roof or the drilling any holes.

Install/removal takes 30 seconds and allows me to easily move the Starlink to an M18 battery with 1" ball mount for completely remote operation.

The only real downside that I see is the potential to hang it up on a tree branch but there isn't any satellite coverage in heavily forested areas anyway. Time will tell if that becomes an issue or not.

Okay I need someone to explain how to use Apple CarPlay and Starlink mini. I can’t find how to use wired Apple CarPlay freeing up the wifi connection to connect to Starlink versus the Grenedier network. I have searched and can’t find the thread or conversation about this. Thanks in advance

CarPlay (and Android Auto) on the 2024 vehicles is wireless only; thus using Starlink and Carplay/AndroidAuto simultaneously isn't possible

Everyone uses WiFi, not bluetooth for wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto, its not like Ineos went out and invented some new way of doing things.

Apple Car Play and Android Auto are based on remote display protocols - the phone does the heavy lifting and displays it on the head unit. Bluetooth does not have the bandwidth to support the audio and video streaming required.

Clarification - they use BOTH, but WiFi is required.

I purchased this plug from Amazon. Then ordered the plugs and tool from Agile Off-road. I cut cord in half and installed the plug and attached to the roof plug. Then I put female plug on the 12volt plug left over wire and when I arrive at camp I can then plug cable into each other and a portable battery.(Jackery). Now I have the correct plugs to add lights etc. Since I’m using a magnetic mount I can now use on any vehicle and still use the 12volt cable from Amazon.
