Shovel Side Mount Using Utility Belt

Has anyone mounted a shovel to the rear side using the utility belt? I actually ticked the box for the Rhino shovel as part of my order, and the length seems to fit perfectly on the rear section without fouling the second row door, or the load space door. I’m trying to avoid roof mounted accessories at this stage, and would be nice to carry a shovel externally in an easy to get to place when travelling off-road.

Anyone done this yet who can share details on what they used for mounting?

I haven't tried to mount a shovel to the utility belt, but if you are not concerned about theft I bet you could use something like this:

The optimal solution is going to vary based on whether or not you have the L-track installed.

Agency 6 have some cool recovery shovels that mount on a bracket that can be fixed flat or on an angle, you could probably find a way to adapt the bracket to the utility belt. Due to the angled shoulder below the utility belt I am not sure they would work with the blade underside facing out, might work with underside facing in? They look great when mounted on a molle panel like the CAtuned.

Are the maxtraxx zip tied to the Molle panel here?

Hi @Shorty. Just wondering how you went with this project. I’ve been looking into using Rhino-Rack's Stow-it Utility Holders as shown in this picture I found.

I contacted Rhino-Rack, but they were unable to tell me how the Stow-its would mount to the utility belt.

I've been looking for something as well My molle are fully booked. I've been thinking roof rack but I'd prefer the utility rack if I could get it to work.

Smart idea to have Pinchweld around the shovel's blade.

This thread lists some of the L Track tie downs available. Various L Track tie downs being discussed here. Like this one (that may work):

Do let us know what works, including the shovel chosen or used.

It was a fail from me. I ordered quick fists and tried a few combinations, but in the end the contour of the car didn’t allow enough room for me to be comfortable the shovel wouldn’t make contact with the paint. Interested to see if others find a better as I would like to make use of those tracks with something practical! So far they’ve been ornamental.

I made the brackets shown in the pic below and used a Quick Fist to attach a shovel made by Bully Tools (#92712, available on Amazon). Very happy with this setup. Super quick to grab the shovel when needed, and the knobs allow quick removal of the brackets when I don't need them.

The ones shown are unpainted prototypes but the final powder coated brackets are ready to be ordered in a batch if there is sufficient interest. This is a multi-purpose bracket that has a few different uses (shovel mount, griddle mount, or GoPro mount). I plan to start a new thread about this in the Skunkworks forum soon.

Thanks, can I suggest the shovel's blade is always pointed rearwards.

That's a pretty slick mount!
Yes, I think so too. And I doubt whether the direction of the shovel really makes a difference in terms of possible injuries. You either have a gaping, clean slash wound or a broken piece of rubble. Even the German thoroughness with the edge protection doesn't help, as shown in the photo above. The vehicle was at an Ineos event in Böblingen a few weeks ago.

Very much looking forward to seeing these in the forum store. 🙂

There's a "riser" product offered from Z1 Off-road that may address this. When I get around to mounting the Sidekicks from Leitner I am planning on trying to fit Quick Fists to the load-bar mounts to see if I can put a shovel up there - and was thinking I might need these risers.
