I need more cargo storage. I used to carry emergency/recovery gear and a set of tools in the covered bed when I had a pickup. Rarely needed that gear but when I did.. I was glad I had it. I guess I also need to find a way to carry a scissor jack too.

I've installed a Leitner roof rack, Now I need some boxes. I'm just not crazy about paying $700 for the Leitner storage box.

What are you using for cargo boxes on your roof rack? How do they attach? Can you secure them?

Second issue is height of my vehicle. With my 2.5" lift, slightly taller tires and the rack, I'm over 7 foot. I think I'm going to need a step stool or ladder to access the roof. I've ordered a 270 awning which will add another 8 inches or so to my height. Basically I will never get to park in a parking garage ever again!

I've been looking at both Roam Adventure and Pelican boxes as an option to my Yakima SkyBox. The Leitner ones look really nice as well.

I was looking for something like this too with a low profile wide box that could carry my treds, high lift jack and shovel up on my Rhino Cross Bars. I posted the same question a while back and am still looking at the options. The Roam Boxes still are looking like my pick so far.
I liked the idea of something that mimics a flat wide roof top tent enclosure say 40” wide by 60” long by 8-10” tall.

I have the 95 and 2 105l. I like the 105 better as they open front to back where the 95 opens from side. I put the 2 105L on rear of my rack, easy to open and get stuff out the back. The 95L goes width wise across the front of the rack. Acts like a fairing. This of course is on my L663 front runner 3/4 rack.

Other one to list here @TheDocAUS having seen them up close is Leitner Design’s excellent GearPOD.

I plan on attaching my rifle cases to the top of the rack when it arrives. Have used them for years on my Tacoma and had zero issues with them at all. I use the Harbor Freight ones. Inexpensive but work like a champ!

I guess I would worry about 'rifle cases' attracting the wrong type of attention (read as thieving b*st*rds) but you have used them extensively in the past, so perhaps I'm too pessimistic.

View attachment 7872884I have two of the Roam 160L. Just made a trip from Denver to Scottsdale for a month. They are a little tall to access, but carried all the items with a Thule cargo box on the other side. I would like an additional ladder to access from the side. The rear ladder is not as usable. Traveling with this https://www.homedepot.com/p/Gorilla...tform-300-lbs-Load-Capacity-GLWP-47/305590237 and I’m 6’2” and can’t reach over the top of them.

I wonder if I could store this ladder by strapping it between the rear 30 door and the rear door ladder? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B7DXSSR6/?tag=globalgrena0b-20

Never once have I had any issues with the rifle cases. I do not keep my firearms in there, just camping things and recovery gear.

I have one of the 62L alubox boxes on my roof. I use the screw down mounting kit for it.
Super nice quality, a bit expensive but i think the quality is worth it.

I have two of these in the trunk. They fit right next to the fridge in the trunk and basically creates a new platform that the rest of my gear sit on top of. Both of them fit one in front of the other in the trunk and lets me close the door. Super nice quality.

I ordered key alike integrated locks from a german company (they have US distributor) which i think makes a lot of sense.

How did you attach the Thule cargo box to the Leitner roof rack? Did you have to use an adapter? Thanks!

Great question. I had to fabricate crossbars from some old parts. But I’m not happy with it as a regular solution. Might make some from aluminum extrusion on 8020 vs buy.
