Hello everyone;) Small question, has anyone already tried to dismantle the door panel or do you know what colours the cables from the speakers have? I would like to improve my sound system a little, I find the originals terrible... In the B column you would also have to get to the cables without dismantling the door panel? I just want to install a mini subwoofer under the driver's seat, the space should be enough;) If this question has already been asked, I apologise;)

@ChaosDogg I haven't take a front off, but from what I recall the rear door panels attach basically the same way, and then a number of clips (aka a good yank); hopefully someone can be of more assistance

On the other hand, it's good to know that there's someone else who plans on ripping the door panels off that soon after delivery!

I figured it out - pics coming soon!

Front door panel has 5 screws - the 3 I mentioned earlier, and 2 extra hidden under this piece of trim that is only held together by clips:

Front speaker looks like a 6" - on the photo I'm measuring from screw to screw:

Rear door is similar. There is 1 bolt under the handle and 1 bolt on the bottom as per the front door, but there are 3 hidden screws under the trim:

The trim that needs to be pulled out:

Rear speaker seems to be a 4":

And finally the clips that we'll all probably need to get some spares of:

Apologies about digging up this thread again, but has anyone actually taken the door panels off yet? Looking to replace the speakers and would like to have a look before ordering anything.
For the front driver side I've found 3 bolts so far - 1 inside the interior door handle, one underneath and one the edge. Can't seem to see any more but its not lifting off that easily and am a bit wary or ripping anything out accidentally on a car that's been in my possession for less than 24 hours....
Keen to see what you put in there @ChaosDogg - I'm thinking Focals, but what's under there and what will fit is an unknown.

Currently thinking of these for the rear:

And trying to decide between these two (budget being the only issue!):

Looking at the tech specs of those it looks both 6.5" would fit (156cm diameter if I'm reading it right).

Will add an underseat sub as well I reckon while I'm at it.

I'm new to this forum and I have been searching for information about a speaker upgrade. I'm pretty keen on the Focal speakers suggested above. Do you know if there is a requirement for an amp to replace the integrated amp currently in the vehicle?

I got the 165Ks in the end, haven't installed them fully yet though. They did need a little bit of hacksaw work to fit them in as the supports around the edge of the speaker stick out more than the stock ones.

To answer your original question though, I did get an aftermarket amp.

I finally finished up with the audio upgrade. In the end I went with the Focal ES 165Ks for the Fronts and the Focal PC 100 4"s for the Rears.
Photos attached, but they both needed a bit of hacksaw work to get in as the frame of the Focals stick out more than the stocks. Once they're in though, it's all pretty solid.

Hi ChaosDogg, Impressive install. Couple questions?
1 - Have you had a chance to hear the new sound quality yet and if so what are your thoughts.
2 - Did you install any tweeters on the A pillar and if so do you have any photos of the install?
3 - You mentioned you upgraded the amp, any photos and instructions on that install?
4 - Did you install a sub-woofer and if so what kind and any photos and instructions on the install?
Thanks again for sharing your installs with all of us. DaBull

Yep I've been playing around with tuning it and so far it's been great. The plan was to install the tweeters on the door, but getting the wiring across was going to be a pain, so currently they're just fleece taped to the dash :ROFLMAO:
I also bought an underseat sub (https://www.alpine.com.au/shop/subwoofers/enclosed-subwoofers/ss-sb10/), however it doesn't fit. Turns out the gap under the seat at the front of the drivers seat (where I measured) is a fair chunk bigger than the back of the drivers seat...

I currently have all the audio components on a marine ply board, and have that behind the back seat. I'm planning to add a fridge/inverter/drawer system so once that's all planned out I'll mount it all in a more permanent position and trim the cables so there's less spaghetti everywhere:

I've got 1 8 Pin DT connector for audio in from the factory head unit (this preserves the factory fader/balance control) and one 12 Pin DT connector out for the 4 speakers and 2 tweeters. The sub I wired directly to under the front seat.
My amp also has 6 inputs, so I'm going to wire the UHF radios external speaker to this so I can get that through the speakers too.

Amazing work @ChaosDogg . Have you mounted the tweeters yet? If so, can you provide some pictures and advice on the best mounting location given your experience. Also, if you have pictures of the connections you made to the factory head unit that would also be greatly appreciated. How hard was it to remove the front center console to get to the head unit?

Thanks

I have been following various threads on speaker upgrades and tweeter positioning.

Had mine done yesterday (Focal flax Evo) and I’m super happy with the location and sound. Looks about as from the factory as I’ve seen.
Can you provide any more details?

Professional install by a car audio specialist in Brisbane Australia.

Focal Flax Evo 6.5” component splits. Sound stage lifted nicely. Have not updated amp at this stage but very pleased with results.

I have seen a few installs online with tweeters on dash, top of door and custom A Pillar pods but didn’t quite look right.

Thank you. I saw another setup with tweeters in the door and it certainly looks better than those mounted on the pillar or dash.

Similar to what I am looking at, but with a amp.
Who did you go with for the install.
