rear door latch adjustment how?

Hi
rear door is a pain...
it does not shut properly with reasonable force and has to be strongly pulled from the inside to shut properly
Otherwise ,chime every time you stop /start !!!
I understand that adjustments can be made to the latch
Would anybody have an idea about what to do ?
NB :same with bonnet ,but to a lesser extent

For the rear cargo doors the adjustment is most easily made at the top; pull downward to remove the plastic cover around the latch, which will expose some 13mm bolts; loosen slightly and adjust. Small adjustments make a big difference

I had a look and see the 13mm bolts
before proceeding ,i'd like your advice :
Plastic cover: simply prise out? no risk of breaking ?

how do you think the loosening of the bolts will tell the sensor (the cone and funnel parts ,I suppose?) the door is shut

Plastic cover just pulls down/ prises off
The cone and funnel does not have a sensor, it’s just for locating the door especially as the car gets older and hinges wear a bit. As far as I’m aware the sensors are on the actual latches.

Hi @Leonidas , I'm also interested to see if it worked. Parts of my back door latch cover have broken off when I tried to remove it. I am curious if you can get them out without damage.

Is there an adjustment routine? Does anyone have any information on this?

The adjustment means -

Loosen the bolt then pull out or push in the latch.

It was advised by others that pulling out the latch slightly (3-5mm) can fix this poor alignment sensor issue.

That’s what I did on mine. Loosened the 13mm bolt for the 70 door’s top latch ( i didn’t remove the plastic). Pulled it out about 3mm, and the door chime issue is gone.

Mine was never as severe as your’s it only triggered the warning when I went over a large bump. So perhaps your latch is more severely out of alignment.

I am asking because ,if the plastic cover is not removed ,I can have access to the front bolts ,but not to the back bolts

I don’t remember how many bolts were involved..
I could reach the bolt with a ratcheting wrench.. the bolt weren’t torqued down extremely tight either, so it was easy to loosen

yew ,but you probably took the plastic cover first?
If yes ,is it easy to do without breaking the plastic ?

No I didn’t pull of plastic cover.. tool fit through the opening of the latch. Whether it was one or two bolts I don’t remember.. it was very easy to loosen, to move the latch

This is the striker from the upper lock of the right split door. I suspect that it is set too far back and that the door is blocked by the pin and does not click into place properly. So: loosen the screws so that the striker can be moved with a little force. Push the striker back. Close the door. Open it again and tighten the screws. This adjusts the position quite well. When I pulled the plastic cover "down" I damaged the plastic. But it still holds and does not rattle. So the repair was worth it. Before, the "bongs" were driving me crazy. Now everything is fine.

I had the chime going off constantly and the alarm going off randomly.
It is a known problem and it is the rear door position sensor.
The dealer replaced it and the complete rear lock assembly.
8 months and 16,000 kms since then with not a single problem.

As for the bonnet just hold it up about 2 foot and drop it.
Closes every time.
